After a long hiatus of more than three years, the Close Encounters LTM has made its triumphant return to Fortnite. But what is this unique gameplay experience, and how can you dive into it?
While Fortnite has solidified its reputation with classic modes like Battle Royale and Zero Build, it has also introduced several exciting limited-time playlists throughout the years. These playlists have included renowned crossover events from popular franchises, like the Infinity Gauntlet, and themed challenges inspired by games like Among Us with its Imposters mode.
Among the favorites among players has been the Close Encounters mode, which originally debuted in 2018 and last appeared in 2022.
How to Access Close Encounters Mode
You can locate the Close Encounters mode through the main Fortnite menu, specifically under the ‘By Epic’ section. Alternatively, you can utilize the search bar for quicker access. Once you play it for the first time, it will automatically appear in your ‘Recent’ list at the top of the menu, ensuring easy retrieval in the future.
It’s important to note that some players might encounter difficulties in finding the mode since it belongs to the Season OG category rather than the main game. However, following these straightforward instructions should simplify your search.
Understanding the Close Encounters Gameplay
Set against the backdrop of the classic OG map, the Close Encounters mode transforms the gameplay experience by eliminating all weapons except shotguns. This unique restriction encourages players to engage in close-quarters combat to claim eliminations. Players need not worry about a lack of variety; grenades and other items are also available to enhance combat tactics.
At the start of each match, all players are equipped with a Jetpack, granting them the ability to take to the skies or swiftly pursue opponents without the risk of fall damage. Given that building is disabled in this mode, leveraging the Jetpack for mobility will be crucial in gaining advantageous positions.
In the previous iteration in 2022, players often resorted to constructing sky bases to evade elimination, a tactic that required adjustment when building was disabled this time around. Nevertheless, players can find vending machines scattered throughout the map, where they can exchange gathered materials for valuable resources.
