Is Animal Taming Possible in Hytale?

As of now, Hytale lacks a comprehensive system for taming animals or pets. Currently, the game does not include features such as taming, commands, or breeding. However, the developers have indicated that these aspects will be introduced in future updates. Presently, animal taming mechanics are limited; you can only foster a sense of tolerance in certain animals under specific conditions. Players typically ‘tame’ animals primarily for purposes like obtaining eggs, shearing wool, decorative purposes, or occasional horse riding.

Capturing Animals in Hytale

Utilize Capture Crates for Animal Collection

To effectively capture and relocate smaller animals, the Capture Crate is highly recommended. To create a Capture Crate, head to the Farmer’s Workbench and craft it using 4x Any Wood and 50x Essence of Life. After crafting, equip the crate in your quick slot and left-click on a small or baby animal to capture it.

Suitable animals for the Capture Crate include:

Rabbits (all sizes)
Calves
Lambs
Foals
Baby pigs
Frogs
Mice

It’s important to note that adult animals, such as full-grown horses, cannot be captured using the Capture Crate. Once captured, you can carry these animals and release them into a fenced area by left-clicking.

When animals are placed inside a fenced enclosure, they will not attempt to escape. Fencing can be crafted using any type of log at the Builder’s Workbench. Ensure the enclosure is uniform in height and install a gate for easy access.

Calming Captured Animals with a Feed Bag

To create a sense of calm among captured animals, craft a Feed Bag at the Farmer’s Workbench using 10x Wheat, 5x Vegetables, 5x Fruits, and 10x Essence of Life. Place the Feed Bag inside the animal enclosure and leave them undisturbed for one full in-game day. Subsequently, heart icons will appear above the animals, indicating they have become friendly and familiar with your presence.

Do bear in mind that if you recapture a tamed animal, it may revert to its wild state. Currently, tamed animals do not follow players and breeding functionality is not yet available. You can shear sheep using Shears, whereas chickens will lay eggs in the designated Chicken Coop within their enclosure.

Riding Horses in Hytale

Where to Locate Horses

Horses can be found in small herds within the Emerald Grove and Savannah areas of the Howling Sands in Hytale. At present, they are the only rideable animals in the game.

How to Mount a Horse

To mount a horse, quietly approach while crouching, then press F when you’re close enough. Once mounted, you can navigate using WASD controls. Notably, there is no taming mini-game or saddling involved, meaning horses function as temporary mounts. After dismounting, horses will typically attempt to flee. Using a Feed Bag nearby can significantly simplify the mounting process, eliminating the need for a chase. However, building is not possible while riding.

Is Animal Breeding Available in Hytale?

Currently, Hytale does not support animal breeding as this feature has yet to be implemented in Early Access. This applies to all types of animals, including horses, cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens. Even structures such as chicken coops are not functioning as intended.
