A Killer Paradox: Does Lee Tang escape in the end? Explanation of the ending

The hero of the Netflix K-drama has a very special power, that of committing the perfect crime. But he still finds himself in trouble: how does he get out of it in the end?

A Killer Paradox has just started its broadcast on Netflix, and already the K-drama has everything it takes to compete with the best Korean series on the platform: rhythmic editing, intelligent staging and deep, perfectly interpreted characters. by their actors… We indeed find a very nice casting for these extraordinary protagonists: Lee Tang is played by Choi Woo-shik (Parasite, Last train to Busan), and plays opposite Son Suk-ku (Sense8) in the skin of Lieutenant Jang Nan-gam.

Beyond its technical performance, the series benefits from an effective concept: the hero has a superpower, that of committing perfect crimes by targeting only the worst scoundrels in Korea, who seem unconsciously attracted to the young man as butterflies would stick to a fatally burning light bulb.

The K-drama adapts the kkomabi manhwa to its own taste and enjoys plunging its characters into complex situations, not without a touch of humor, which makes its spectators dizzy. Between murders, creepy dreams and verbal jousts punctuated with bubbles of chewing gum, A Killer Paradox quickly draws its viewer into a whirlwind of intrigues at a fast pace.

Arriving at the eighth and final episode, the series finally answers one of the big questions: did Lee Tang get away with it, did he hang up the dagger and stop committing murder to get on the right side of the world? law?

Warning: spoilers to follow!

He then abandons his escape and rushes to the aid of his teammate. In the meantime, the latter explained to Lieutenant Jang Nan-gam his common past with the old assassin: he had recruited him to have criminals executed who were not bothered by Korean justice. Unfortunately, Song developed a taste for murder, and under the guise of a very personal justice, continued to kill with all his might, using letters of apology to justify his dark designs.

As for the lieutenant, he sets out to pursue Song when the latter puts an end to the life of his father, a former police officer. Taking advantage of Roh Bin to find him and learn more about his adversary, he lays hands on him in an abandoned nightclub. But new revelations will curb his desire for revenge.

He thus learns that his father was not the impeccable policeman he had imagined under his shell of a strict father. On the contrary, he was a corrupt cop, not hesitant to use innocent people for his drug trafficking. As for her current boss and mentor, Nan-gam learns that he slept with her mother, the two maintaining an adulterous relationship.

Unfortunately, when the four protagonists are reunited, things go wrong: Song attacks Roh Bin and Lee Tang, and Nan-gam shoots in the group. It will affect two characters. Song is seriously injured, but Roh Bin fares less well, and dies quickly after the shot.

If he was not worried by Jang Nan-gam’s investigations, it is thanks to Roh Bin. His sidekick, who had fun changing his name to better fit the universe of Batman (and Robin!), constantly repeated it throughout the series: he had a plan. And his plan proved effective, exonerating the murderous superhero.

After the fatal shooting at the nightclub, the bodies of Song Chon and Roh Bin are left behind. A building fire will take away everything except the hacker’s teeth. The jaw is then compared to the only evidence found at another crime scene: an apple, which Lee Tang had bitten into, leaving his dental imprint. Roh Bin learned about it while infiltrating the police network, and found a solution there. In fact, he took advantage of the fraudulent actions of a dental surgeon to force him to operate, and give him the same teeth as Lee Tang.

When his body is found, the comparison between the alignment of his teeth and the mark on the apple match. Police profilers therefore deduce that Roh Bin is the author of the crimes that Lee Tang had committed. In Roh Bin’s words, having a teammate as clever as him is certainly yet another demonstration of the young man’s superpower, which allows him to always get by.

What happens to Lee Tang at the end of A Killer Paradox?

While returning to Korea, Jang Nan-gam hears news on television: a man, the number one suspect in a three-year-old kidnapping and murder case, has been found dead.

The pattern strongly reminds him of Lee Tang’s other murders. And if the series does not confirm anything, the last scene tends to make it clear that the super-radar killer is indeed back. Walking in the street, the former student is jostled by a passerby. Everything indicates that he reacts to her contact, and the characteristic sound of his goosebumps punctuates the last black shot of the series before the credits: we don’t give much thought to his target.

A Killer Paradox has been available on Netflix since February 9, 2024.
