It always feels like there’s something Pokémon related on the horizon. There’s so much to do with Pokémon Go ‘s live service tactics, the regular release schedule of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, or the long lifespan of mainline games like Pokémon Scarlet & Violet thanks to Teracrystal Raids and collecting shiny.
But right now, looking towards 2024, the future of Pokémon is uncertain, as Pokémon Scarlet & Purple appear to be over thanks to the recent epilogue to Pokémon Scarlet & Purple.

Will a new Pokémon game be released in 2024?
As of this writing, there are no public plans to release a Pokémon game in 2024. However, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company usually have a frequent release schedule, so it would be very surprising if it doesn’t. There were no new Pokémon games in 2024.
Additionally, The Pokémon Company and Game Freak usually like to release a Pokémon game every year. Although Pokémon Scarlet & Purple have only just ended, for many fans it seems too soon to consider the next generation.
While 2023 saw the release of Pokémon Scarlet & Purple DLC, DLC and previous “third versions” of games are usually handed off to junior teams while the main team works on the next big release. Meanwhile, titles like Pokémon Sparkling Diamond and Sparkling Pearl have been outsourced to different developers.
Looking back at 2023, the year consisted of Detective Pikachu Returns, Pokémon Sleep, and the Pokémon Scarlet & Purple DLC. So it’s reasonable to assume that at least one Pokémon game will be released in 2024, and optimistically, it could be a mainline game in the lineage of Pokémon Legends Arceus, or remakes of Black and White.
Another thing to consider is that several reports suggest that Nintendo could release new hardware in 2024. If that happens, it’s very likely that The Pokémon Company will want a Pokémon game on the platform within the first six months. But this remains purely speculative.
