A Pokémon Go player gives up on passing levels

While some Pokémon Go players are on a mission to become the best and climb the ranks of trainers, it seems one player has given up and players can’t explain why.

At a certain point, Pokémon Go can get a little repetitive. Even if you play Pokémon Go every day, after level 40, level challenges start to feel long, especially if you’re looking to reach the level cap.

Of course, reaching Level 50 or similar heights shouldn’t be easy, but there are some truly difficult tasks on the road to the top, including many challenges focused on capturing, fighting, and evolving certain Rare Pocket Monsters.

For one Pokémon Go player, it seems the routine became too much after another player noticed that he had enough XP to go to the moon and back, but remained at level 45. It’s so quite strange to think that he might have encountered an insurmountable challenge.

Pokémon Go players perplexed as trainer abandons level-up despite collecting XP

A Pokémon Go player by the name of u/madyto shared a post on Reddit with the comment “Guy gave up…”, showing a trainer who is stuck at level 45. However, while this isn’t too strange in itself, this trainer has well over 1 billion XP, enough to take him to Level 50 and beyond.

The main comment below the post asks the important question, “Any ideas on what’s blocking this trainer? Complete 100 Field Research missions. Take a photo of a Pokémon 7 days in a row. Make 50 Excellent Throws. [Or] Hatch 30 Eggs.”

Then, in the same comment, the person also explains the absolute wealth of XP the trainer has, adding, “Also, 1.1 billion XP. From level 45 to level 50, you need 109.5 million XP. This trainer somehow earned 10 times the amount of XP needed to reach the highest level in the game.”

A comment just below the post says, “None of these challenges should be really difficult for someone with a billion px. This is insane.”

Then another person adds their own perspective, saying, “It must be out of spite. That’s the only thing that makes sense – getting that much XP and not completing any of these challenges requires some serious devotion.”

One person adds their own explanation for the player’s stagnation, as they say, “Alternatively, they might have a job that prevents them from doing it. When I was in the Navy, I had to be on call for 24 hours every 4 days and I wasn’t allowed to have my phone. That made getting those streaks extremely difficult.”

Whether it’s because of these tasks or this trainer is just tired of leveling up, it’s quite interesting that he doesn’t care about any of the rewards. If you’re on a mission to move up the ranks, be sure to check out our guide to leveling up in Pokémon Go next.
