When that plan fell through, he resorted to purchasing intelligence from Armand (Max Casella). Using this intel, Cal tried to thwart Dwight’s deal regarding the wind farm by sending Jackie Ming’s (Rich Ting) men to sabotage the site and prevent further development.

While Cal may seem the most logical choice for the bombing, there’s a further indication that he could be involved. His attacks on Dwight have escalated in intensity over time, starting with attempts to keep his hands clean by persuading the U.S. Attorney. Once he resorted to unambiguous violence, such as orchestrating assaults on Dwight through Jackie’s hardened crew of Chinese gangsters, a car bomb now seems like a predictable next move.

Cal possesses a substantial motivation to orchestrate this violence against Dwight, aside from his numerous assaults so far. Dwight’s fury towards Cal is palpable, even issuing direct threats.

With access to profits from Cal Thresher’s marijuana enterprise and heroin operations, he certainly had the financial means and opportunity to execute the bombing. Jackie may have viewed Dwight as a risk to his income sources.

In Episode 6 of Season 2, Jackie highlighted that Dwight’s actions were undermining his profits at the weed farm. Following a skirmish, only one of Jackie’s guards showed up at work after Dwight’s crew laid waste to several of his men.

Jackie could have feared that his team would perceive his insufficient guards and injured comrades as vulnerability. Blaming Dwight for the disruption and seeking to eliminate his influence appears plausible because he aims to protect his financial stability.
