AMD has partnered with Valve to reintroduce its Anti-Lag technology in Counter-Strike 2.
In 2023, AMD released an update for their RDNA 3 graphics cards that included a feature called Anti-Lag. This feature was specifically designed to decrease latency for gamers playing high-speed games.
Despite functioning at the driver level, Valve’s Anti-Cheat system mistakenly flagged the feature as cheat software, resulting in numerous players receiving VAC bans in popular games including Counter-Strike 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. However, Valve was able to rectify the situation and lift the bans for affected players. Unfortunately, AMD was forced to remove the driver and eliminate the Anti-Lag+ feature as a result.
AMD has officially revealed the re-launch of Anti-Lag, now known as Anti-Lag 2. In order to prevent any recurrence of the previous VAC ban issues, AMD has collaborated closely with Valve to conduct extensive testing on all driver functions. The latest iteration of Anti-Lag requires game integration and is currently accessible as a technical preview in Counter-Strike 2.
AMD Anti-Lag 2 is now compatible with a broader range of GPUs, including the Radeon RX 5000 and 6000 series and the Ryzen 6000 iGPUs. In contrast, the previous version exclusively worked with RDNA3-based GPUs.
To test the feature in Counter-Strike 2 using your AMD Radeon graphics card, downloading and installing the AMD Software Adrenaline Edition 24.5.1 for Anti-Lag 2 Technical preview driver from the AMD website is necessary.
Those who opt to test out Anti-Lag 2 with the preview driver are urged to share their feedback on the driver’s performance and the Anti-Lag 2 feature using the Bug Report Tool.
There has been no confirmation from AMD regarding any other games receiving Anti-Lag 2 integration.
