Recent evaluations indicate that Valve has amassed over $1 billion in revenue from Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) in 2025, primarily derived from data gathered on the Steam Marketplace and estimates concerning in-game purchases.

This comprehensive analysis was presented by YouTuber ZestyJesus, who, along with a collaborator, developed a sophisticated tool designed to collect and analyze sales figures from the Steam Community Market. Additionally, they utilized publicly available statistics on case openings, sharing their findings with the audience.

The chronological overview spans from November 2024 to November 2025, categorizing Valve’s revenue from CS2 into two primary sources: the in-game store and the Steam Community Market.

How Much Revenue Does Valve Generate from Counter-Strike 2?

According to the collected data, players opened over 400 million CS2 weapon cases within this timeframe. Given that each case requires a $2.50 key purchased directly from Valve, this equates to over $1 billion in gross key sales alone. Although creators of the skins receive a portion of revenue from the cases they contribute to, ZestyJesus suggests that Valve retains the majority of this income, based on the revenue-sharing models observed in other titles affiliated with Valve.

In addition to key sales, various in-game items such as Armory Passes, Major passes, music kits, and sticker capsules are sold directly to players. However, due to a lack of public data, revenue from these sales is conservatively estimated to contribute hundreds of millions of dollars more to Valve’s overall revenue.

The Steam Community Market represents another significant income stream. ZestyJesus reports that the scrapped data reveals over 754 million item sales from CS2 throughout the year, amassing approximately $1.22 billion in transaction value.

With Valve collecting a 15 percent fee on each marketplace transaction, this amounts to around $166 million earned from these market fees alone. Overall, the analysis estimates that Valve’s total earnings from Counter-Strike 2 exceeded $1.16 billion in 2025, with a considerable portion stemming from key sales and additional passive income generated through marketplace activities. ZestyJesus characterized this figure as conservative, considering that numerous revenue streams remain unquantifiable due to the available public data.

The immense popularity of the marketplace is further fueled by players’ ability to trade CS2 items on third-party platforms, enabling them to exchange items for real money. Increased item prices have made it challenging to trade on the Steam Marketplace, which imposes a cap of $2, 000 on item transactions.

The highest recorded sale for a CS2 skin exceeded $1 million, as a collector acquired an exceedingly rare and coveted AK-47 skin. A significant update to the skin economy in October 2025 initially destabilized valuations; however, the market has shown signs of partial recovery since then.
