“Anerbic has released a new version of its K101 Plus retro handheld, featuring a brand-new Nintendo-inspired design and still capable of reading GBA cartridges.”
Anbernic has established a reputation in the world of retro gaming handhelds by creating a variety of Nintendo-inspired devices. The RG35XXSP was heavily influenced by the Game Boy Advanced SP, while the RG28XX was modeled after the Game Boy Micro. These portable consoles rely on emulation and are unable to read authentic Game Boy cartridges.
Anerbnic’s K101 Plus, which is one of the few handheld devices capable of reading Game Boy Advance cartridges, has been out of stock for some time. However, the brand has recently restocked the K101 Plus, now offering the GBA-compatible device in a new and vibrant color option.
The updated K101 Plus handheld is a continuation of the previous K101 Plus model, which was first introduced in 2015. During its initial release, it was marketed as the Revo K101 Plus, and it served as an enhanced version of the original K101.
The recently updated K101 Plus is “fully compatible”with both official and unofficial Game Boy Advance game cartridges. However, unlike the Analogue Pocket, the K101 Plus does not utilize FPGA technology and instead relies on emulation.
Despite the disappointment it may bring to retro gaming enthusiasts, the absence of FPGA may not deter GameCube fans who will surely appreciate the new colorway of the K101 Plus. The “blue”exterior closely resembles the classic Nintendo console.
The updated K101 Plus has the ability to read officially copied game dumps from a microSD via its TF card slot, with a maximum capacity of 256GB. Additionally, it comes with an 800mAh battery that allows for up to five hours of gameplay and can connect to other K101 Plus devices for multiplayer games.
