Android 15 to get Feature That Can Make Your Charging Habits Healthier

According to reports, Android will soon have a new feature that lets users manually set the battery charge limit to 80%.

The battery of a smartphone is often the first component to require replacement. Frequent charging cycles and inconsistent charging patterns can result in fast deterioration, causing users to either replace their phones or have the battery replaced.

According to a recent report from Android Authority, Google is currently developing a new feature that will enable users to set their battery charge limit to a maximum of 80%, with the aim of enhancing overall battery health.

Mishaal Rahman discovered the new feature in the SystemUI app of the latest Android 15 Beta 4 update. As a result, Pixel devices will now include a “Charging Optimization”page in the Battery settings menu.

Upon activating the “Charging Optimization”function, Rahman states that users will be able to select either the “Adaptive Charging”mode or the new “limit to 80%”mode.

Keeping the device’s battery charge at 80% instead of fully charging it to 100% is recommended for maintaining the battery’s health, as stated by the Battery University. This is the reason why the charging speed is most efficient between 20% and 80%, and slows down once it reaches 80%, giving the battery time to cool down.

A battery that is in good condition will retain its full charge and, as a result, have a longer time period before needing to be recharged.

Despite this, it remains unclear when the feature will be launched. If Google opts to introduce the feature with Android 15, it is likely that Pixel devices will be the initial recipients.

It is worth noting that Samsung has already implemented this feature on a few of their devices, giving users the ability to choose how much they want to charge their phone. It may be some time before other brands follow suit and include this option in their Android skins.

Similarly, iOS 18 also has this feature available on Apple devices. However, Apple gives users the option to set their own limit, with choices ranging from 80% to 95%.
