Apex Legends Season 28, titled Breach, revolutionizes gameplay by placing an emphasis on close-quarters combat. With the introduction of an innovative destructible environment mechanic, substantial updates to various Legends, and comprehensive adjustments to ranked play, weapon dynamics, and loot, this season aims to engage players in exciting new ways.

Scheduled to launch on February 10, the season features the introduction of Hardlight Mesh windows throughout the Outlands. This unique addition allows players to smash through structures or strategically reinforce their positions, thereby enhancing the tactical depth of the game.

Season 28 also commemorates the seventh anniversary of Apex Legends, offering permanent Legend unlocks, a special themed event, and an all-new Battle Pass.

Introducing Hardlight Mesh

The Hardlight Mesh windows are striking destructible and repairable structures integrated into buildings. While intact, these windows enable visibility but prevent players from shooting or entering through them.

This mechanic can be tactically exploited; players can demolish Hardlight Mesh to catch foes off guard or make a stealthy escape. Utilizing explosives, snipers, shotguns, and melee assaults will hasten the destruction, creating new opportunities for engagement and sightlines. Moreover, Controller Legends now possess the enhanced ability to repair and fortify these windows, allowing teams to build formidable defenses during combat.

According to Eric Canavese, the Lead Battle Royale Designer, the objective is to fundamentally alter the layout of familiar maps, facilitating innovative offensive and defensive strategies that change the dynamics of how players interact with structures.

Significant Legend Enhancements

This new season brings crucial updates to several Legends, aligning their abilities with the focus on close-range skirmishes.

**Fuse** has been equipped with enhanced offensive capabilities, including the Knuckle Jumper upgrade which enables him to bypass enemy fortifications. Furthermore, his Ultimate has undergone a rework for better clearing of strongholds, now featuring upgrades that permit flame deployment and energy recharge through explosives.

Bloodhound has seen improvements to their Tactical scan, along with a notably reduced cooldown for their Ultimate. These upgrades enhance the fluidity of the Tactical scan and allow for an extension of their Ultimate upon achieving a knock during Beast of the Hunt, promoting continuous eliminations. Enhancements also include expanded White Raven range and healing capabilities during Ultimate engagements.

Catalyst’s Piercing Spikes now have extended throwing distance and faster activation. Additionally, upgrades allow hidden spikes until activated or increasing damage potential. Her Dark Veil Ultimate can now be deployed horizontally to effectively seal pathways, reducing incoming bullet damage while strengthening defensive positions.

Furthermore, Controller Legends now have enhanced interactions with Hardlight Mesh, allowing them to reconstruct and bolster broken windows, transforming them into fortified strongholds.

Ranked Play Overhaul

The Drop Zone feature has been eliminated from Ranked play, reverting to the traditional drop ship format, which aligns Ranked matches more closely with public match experiences. Developers have addressed player feedback regarding randomness in outcomes, loot disparities, and ring pressure as primary motivators for this shift.

Bot Royale Evolution

Bot Royale has been revised to accommodate between one and five human squads per match, supplemented by upgraded Apex Bots designed for varying skill levels among players.

The mode has seen the removal of XP caps and challenge limitations, enabling players to gain experience and progress through challenges without constraints; however, badges and stats remain inactive.

Meta Adjustments to Weapons

Several shotgun hop-ups make a comeback, including Dual Shell for the Mastiff, Disruptor Rounds for the Peacekeeper, and Double Tap for the EVA-8 Auto. Meanwhile, adjustments will see Marksman weapons like the Bocek, Triple Take, and 30-30 Repeater receiving reductions in both fire rate and damage output, and the G7 Scout being transitioned to the Care Package.

Streamlining the Loot Pool

Knockdown Shields have been eradicated from the loot pool. Instead, their strength will now correlate with a player’s Legend Level and evolve as players increase their Evo levels. Additionally, White Backpacks will be automatically equipped at the beginning of each match, having been removed from ground loot to minimize early-game clutter and simplify the looting process.

Celebrities of the 7th Anniversary Event

The celebration for the seventh anniversary extends an exciting opportunity for players to permanently unlock up to four Legends by accomplishing weekly challenges.
