Apology from Geffen Records for “Mocking” BTS’s Jimin Fails to Satisfy Fans

On June 23, the phrase “GEFFEN APOLOGIZE TO JIMIN”began to gain traction on SNS platform X (previously known as Twitter) as numerous BTS fans voiced their frustration towards Geffen Records, the entity responsible for promoting BTS in the United States.

At the time, a fan had requested for Geffen Records to properly promote BTS’s Jimin, but Ray Kurzeka, a high-ranking official at the company, responded with mocking remarks. Rather than handling the situation professionally, Kurzeka deactivated his social media profile and disregarded the fans’ anger.

Geffen Records did not release an official statement regarding the aforementioned controversy until a week later on June 28.

Despite the agency’s admission that the mocking reply was a mistake, they quickly requested for fans to refrain from engaging in personal attacks. Additionally, they reassured that Jimin’s 2nd solo album, “Muse”, will still be released as scheduled and will not be affected by the incident.

Despite being made late and failing to address the lack of promotion for Jimin’s upcoming release, this statement has not appeased fans who remain angry. They believe that Ray Kurzela’s claims of making a mistake are unfounded and are emphasizing that he has yet to issue a public apology.

Despite constant pleas for proper promotion of Jimin, Geffen’s statement and the internet are still flooded with comments like “This was no mistake. It was intentional,”and “Do your job, respect Jimin, and promote Jimin.”
