In a departure from the fantastical elements typical of other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series, Daredevil: Born Again has established itself as a surprisingly grounded narrative. However, this shift does not preclude the inclusion of clever nods to the broader Marvel mythos, as evidenced by a remarkable Easter egg found in Episode 5.
Within this latest installment, viewers are treated to a subtle yet impactful reference to one of the most formidable villains in the MCU: Thanos. While you may be thinking he didn’t physically roam the streets of New York, his influence is nonetheless felt through an artful connection to the Infinity Stones.
Unmasking the Thanos Connection
In this particular episode, a group of five thieves executes a Bank heist in New York City, taking hostages including Kamala Khan’s father. In a bold move, Matt Murdock, our fearless hero, infiltrates the building to rescue those held captive.
What’s particularly intriguing is how the robbers are decked out in distinctive disguises, each donning masks in five different colors: red, blue, green, purple, and yellow. These colors strikingly mirror those of the five Infinity Stones, igniting speculation about their deeper significance.
At this juncture, you might be pondering a catch—Thanos did not merely seek five stones; he famously collected six. With the absence of an orange mask, one could argue that this Easter egg falls short. However, the thieves’ objective presents a delightful twist: they were attempting to steal an orange diamond to complete their ill-fated collection. Is this mere coincidence? I think not. Perhaps this isn’t just a happy accident but a cleverly woven homage to the Mad Titan himself.
