Apple HomePod discontinued as focus shifts to new product

Despite officially discontinuing the original HomePod, Apple’s attention seems to be shifting towards the HomePod Mini. However, there are rumors suggesting that a HomePod with a screen could potentially be released in the near future.

Apple has officially announced that it will no longer produce the original HomePod speaker. In their statement to TechCrunch, the company stated that the product will still be available for purchase through the Apple Online Store, Apple Retail Stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers until supplies run out.

Despite this, Apple will still offer HomePod users software updates and assistance through Apple Care. However, their attention will now be directed towards the HomePod Mini, the smaller version of the device.

As a reminder, the HomePod Mini was introduced in November 2020 and is considered one of the top smart speakers on the market, powered by Siri and priced at $99.

Despite rumors suggesting otherwise, it has been speculated that Apple may be developing a new speaker, indicating that the initial HomePod model may have been phased out in anticipation of the release of the new smart speaker.

There are rumors that an upcoming HomePod may include a screen. This screen is likely to have touch capabilities and user-friendly navigation and controls. It may also provide extra details about the current music or podcast, such as album covers.

We previously covered a product similar to this, a smart speaker equipped with a motorized display. It is possible that these are not two distinct products. However, as per usual, Apple has not disclosed any details and we are currently unaware of the potential release date, features, or specifications.
