Apple Will Ditch iPhone 17 Plus for “iPhone 17 Slim” Claims Analyst

According to reports, Apple plans to replace the iPhone 16 Plus with a new model called the iPhone 17 Slim, possibly making it the last “Plus”iPhone in the series.

According to Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, known for accurately leaking information about Apple, the company is planning to release a new model called the “iPhone 17 Slim”as a replacement for the “Plus”model in their lineup. Pu shared this information in an investor note that was obtained by 9to5Mac.

According to Pu, the upcoming iPhone 17 models will include a refreshed design, enhanced front-facing camera capabilities, and a smaller Dynamic Island (exclusively on the iPhone 17 Pro Max). While the specific design changes have not been disclosed, the reduction in size of the Dynamic Island will be welcomed by those who feel it currently occupies too much space on the screen.

According to Pu, the upcoming models of iPhones – the iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17, and iPhone 17 – may have a more intricate aluminum design, while the 17 Pro is expected to have a Titanium build. Additionally, Apple plans to incorporate a new “metalens”technology for the proximity sensor, resulting in a smaller Dynamic Island size for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Pu did not disclose much information about the new Slim iPhone, but did mention that it will serve as a replacement for the “Plus”iPhone and feature a sleek design. A previous report from DSCC’s Ross Young also supported this claim, stating that the upcoming iPhone 17 Plus will be smaller than the current 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus. However, it is expected that the upcoming iPhone 16 Plus will maintain its 6.7-inch display.

iPhone Model Screen Size (Inches)
iPhone 14 Plus 6.7
iPhone 15 Plus 6.7
iPhone 16 Plus 6.7 (expected)
iPhone 17 Plus Smaller than 6.7 (expected)

According to Pu, the A18 or A19 chip and 8GB of RAM may be featured in both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim. On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to have the A19 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM. Currently, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have 6GB of RAM, while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have 8GB of RAM.

Pu also disclosed that the upcoming iPhone 17 series is set to include a 24MP front camera, a significant increase from the current 12MP sensors found in current iPhones. It is currently too early to confirm if these speculated updates will indeed come to fruition. According to reports, the release of the iPhone 17 lineup is not expected until the fall of 2025.
