Despite high anticipation, Aespa’s debut studio album “Armageddon”was met with mixed reactions in the K-Pop world. While the captivating music video and mesmerizing song impressed many Korean netizens, the album’s sales were significantly lower than expected.
Despite their fervent fanbase and reputation for impressive album sales, the powerhouse girl group under SM Entertainment left many scratching their heads with the reported numbers for “Armageddon”on the Hanteo Chart.
A viral graphic, which was shared on Instiz, intensified the shock. It revealed a significant discrepancy between the sales of aespa’s previous highest-selling album, “My World,”and their latest album, “Armageddon.”
On its first day of release, sales of “My World”skyrocketed, reaching over 1.37 million copies. In contrast, “Armageddon”had a difficult time, barely surpassing 515,500 copies in comparison.

The netizens wasted no time in sharing their surprise, as they raised concerns about the abrupt decrease in sales and the multiple versions of the album.
- “People are losing interest much faster than before.”
- “Wow, only four members but 20 versions… They could have just released a few photobooks and one version of the CD per member. I wish all the idols would cut back a bit now that the inflation is starting to fade away…”
- “Is China really that big of a market? I mean, that number is still high, but inflation was really severe.”
- “Wow, 20 versions.”
- “Why are there so many versions?? I get SMini, but what are My Power and Super Bing? What versions are those?”
- “Isn’t the first-week sales count not finished yet?”
- “This makes sense… As Min Hee Jin said, first-week sales can go up or down, so we shouldn’t always assume they’ll just keep going up by default.”
- “When will the pre-orders be reflected?”
Despite the significant difference in sales between “My World”and “Drama,”the album “Drama”had previously achieved comparable first-day sales to “Armageddon,”further emphasizing the inconsistent nature of the trend.
Despite netizens struggling with the statistics, fans are providing credible explanations. A common belief is that SM and Kakao Entertainment are to blame, as their stocking and distribution methods are seen as insufficient and result in sales being spread out throughout the week instead of being concentrated on the day of release.
kakao fucked up aespa’s sales AGAIN.. the sales were stuck for 4 hours fuck u for doing this to their first full album

In addition, it has been speculated by fans that the long wait for “My World”played a role in its huge success, as opposed to the quick releases of “Drama”and “Armageddon”which may have led to a decrease in excitement and purchasing power. The conversation also explores the changing trends in album consumption habits among Chinese fanbases. The decline in album sales from this demographic, as seen with Ningning and Karina’s large fanbases, is seen as a major contributing factor.
All 4 members’ Chinese bars boycotted the album… that’s nearly 1 million copies right there
