In Season 2, Episode 3 of *Severance*, Mark finds himself in a precarious situation as he urgently seeks a way to connect with his wife, Gemma. His only hope for assistance lies with Asal Reghabi.
The cliffhanger of Season 1 left viewers on edge when Mark’s Innie exclaimed, “She’s alive!” This revelation hints at the survival of Gemma, also known as Ms. Casey, but Mark’s Outie initially dismisses any connection between this statement and his deceased wife. In the latest episode, Mark devises a plan aimed at deciphering the identity of the person his Innie referred to, attempting to embed a crucial message in his memory that would persist beyond the elevator ride to the severed floor.
Unfortunately, Mark’s plan fails due to the involuntary pupil dilation that occurs during the transition between his Outie and Innie states. If he wants to communicate secretly with his Innie without the watchful eyes of Lumon, he requires the expertise of Asal Reghabi.
Understanding the Origin of Reghabi

Asal Reghabi is a crucial figure in the narrative, previously serving as a surgeon for Lumon, where she was responsible for installing Mark’s severance chip and performing the similar procedure on other employees.
Reghabi first appeared in Season 1, shortly after the tragic demise of Petey (Peter Kilmer), a colleague of Mark’s Innie at Lumon. After discovering Petey’s phone in his basement, Mark reaches out to Reghabi, leading to a clandestine meeting at Ganz College. Their discussion is cut short by the arrival of Doug Graner, the head of security for the severed floor, whom Asal swiftly neutralizes with a baseball bat. Before parting ways, she assures Mark, “I’ll be in touch, it’s going to be okay. We’ll finish what Petey started, ” marking her last appearance until the current season.
The Significance of Asal Reghabi

Asal Reghabi is not just a former surgeon; she has become a key player in Mark’s quest for the truth. During their conversation, she emphasizes the importance of “reintegration” as the sole method for retrieving and processing information between Mark’s Outie and Innie, increasing her ability to assist him. Reghabi reveals that reintegration is a complex procedure that reconciles the distinct brain waves of severed individuals, merging their memories and realities into one coherent experience.
This procedure, while potentially enlightening, carries significant risks. Petey, the first individual to undergo reintegration, not only mapped the severed floor but suffered severe side effects, including dizziness, hallucinations, and ultimately, his demise in the first season.
If Reghabi can successfully execute this procedure on Mark, he may uncover vital information concerning Gemma without Lumon’s detection. Furthermore, her insider knowledge of Lumon’s convoluted operations positions her as an invaluable ally as the storyline unfolds.
