Peacemaker Season 2 Release Date Announced: Coming This Summer

James Gunn has officially announced that Season 2 of Peacemaker is set to release shortly after his anticipated Superman film debuts in theaters. This news ends a long hiatus for fans eagerly awaiting the continuation of one of the most celebrated superhero series.

Since its debut over three years ago, Peacemaker has garnered critical acclaim, managing an impressive 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show, a spin-off from The Suicide Squad, masterfully blends intense action with a unique sense of humor, highlighted by John Cena’s unforgettable portrayal of the unhinged protagonist, Christopher Smith, a vigilante with morally ambiguous priorities.

Release Date for Season 2

Peacemaker Season 2 will begin streaming on Max on August 21, 2025. This premiere is particularly noteworthy as it arrives less than a month after the cinematic release of Gunn’s Superman movie.

Gunn shared the exciting news via his Instagram, along with a short teaser trailer (you can view the trailer here).In his post, he stated: “Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @streamonmax August 21.”

The upcoming season will see John Cena reprise his role as Peacemaker, alongside returning cast members such as Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee. New additions to the cast include Tim Meadows and Sol Rodriguez.

Notably, a new opening credits sequence is being introduced to replace the much-loved original, which featured a vibrant dance routine set to Wig Wam’s ‘Do Ya Wanna Taste It.’ Cena expressed his enthusiasm for the new credits, mentioning that “when it became such a part of the show, I think everybody this time was just so excited.” He emphasized the importance of this new sequence and his belief in its quality, saying: “I know the show is great. In my mind, the opening number is great. I hope the world agrees.”
