Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars Will Omit a Key Character from the MCU

The future of the Avengers franchise, particularly with the upcoming installments titled Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, is beginning to take shape. Nevertheless, a shadow has been cast over these exciting developments with the news that one pivotal character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may not return.

The anticipation is building as Marvel prepares to introduce new characters, including the Fantastic Four, while the Russo Brothers aim to regain their footing following the mixed reviews of The Electric State. Additionally, the role of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom remains uncertain as fans speculate how he will integrate into this evolving narrative.

Despite the absence of some key figures, audiences can expect to see the return of several beloved characters.Captain America (Sam Wilson), Spider-Man (Peter Parker), and Doctor Strange (Stephen Strange) are set to reprise their roles as they confront a new and formidable threat from beyond.

Scarlet Witch’s Absence from the Upcoming Films

However, a notable absence will be that of Scarlet Witch. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote her sci-fi film The Assessment, Elizabeth Olsen suggested that she won’t be part of the Avengers cast and crew as they begin filming.

Olsen was busy in London working on Sam Esmail’s thriller project Panic Carefully, coinciding with the timeline for the filming of both parts of the Avengers saga. When queried about any potential extension of her stay in the UK for the new footage, she confirmed, “No, I’m back [in the States].I just finished [Panic Carefully].I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX called Seven Sisters.”

Consequently, it appears that Olsen’s character will not be part of the development process for the upcoming films, at least for now. This decision might not come as a surprise to those who witnessed the dramatic conclusion of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Wanda seemingly sacrificed herself by collapsing the Darkhold Castle in an effort to obliterate the book of dark magic.

While her immense power and significance within the MCU had many fans hoping for her return, the current situation leaves her future in the franchise uncertain. As one disappointed fan expressed on social media, “Marvel had one of the most popular female characters responsible for a nearly billion-dollar movie and then just fumbled and never used her again.” Another fan echoed similar sentiments, stating, “If she’s not returning, then I’m not either!”

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following on May 7, 2027. Perhaps there’s still a chance for Wanda Maximoff to make an appearance in future Marvel storylines!
