Although the season finale of Common Side Effects has yet to air, the trailer for Episode 10 has provided exciting insights into the potential direction of a second season—if it gets the green light.

If you’re unfamiliar with the show, it offers a unique twist in the landscape of animated series, distinguishing itself from popular titles like Rick and Morty and Robot Chicken. This engaging Adult Swim offering can be likened to an animated version of CSI, as it chronicles the adventures of two former high school lab partners who discover an extraordinary healing mushroom.

This mushroom sets them off on a turbulent journey involving clashes with powerful entities including the DEA, pharmaceutical companies, and global investors.

Marshall’s Fate and the Future of Common Side Effects

In Episode 10, the fate of the show’s lead character, Marshall, is cast into doubt after a raid by the FBI that leads to “tragic consequences, ”as indicated in the episode synopsis. However, killing off the main character so early in the series seems improbable, suggesting that there may still be a path toward Season 2.

The trailer offers a glimmer of hope, as the team leader refers to Marshall as “armed and dangerous, ” alluding to the possibility that he may still be alive. If the tragic fallout involves FBI agents rather than Marshall himself, fans might be relieved.

Online discussions echo this sentiment, with comments from eager fans expressing their hope for Marshall’s survival: “He’s alive, he’s gotta be…” and another pleading, “Please tell me Marshall ain’t really dead, pleassssssse!”

The answer will be revealed on March 30, but anticipation for a second season is already building. Though a renewal has not yet been confirmed, there remains optimism in the air.

Writer Steve Hely shared his enthusiasm in a recent interview with the Television Academy, stating, “We pitched out a Season 2 to Adult Swim the other day, and they seemed pretty excited about it. I think they’re probably waiting to see how it does, but we would love to keep going.”

Given that Adult Swim typically doesn’t cancel series after just one season, fans have valid reasons to remain hopeful. The question of whether Marshall will survive, however, remains to be seen.
