Avowed has officially launched, bringing with it a fresh perspective on the role-playing game (RPG) genre. One of the standout features is the game’s fluid class system, offering players an extensive array of abilities to tailor their characters to personal playstyles. This level of customization allows for an engaging experience not often seen in conventional RPGs.

While freedom of choice is crucial, Avowed also introduces three foundational class types for players to specialize in. These classes embody distinct combat styles, with two geared toward ranged engagements and one focused predominantly on melee combat.

The classes available include the Fighter, Ranger, and Wizard. Each class operates within a traditional framework, but they each come equipped with unique advantages and limitations. Familiarizing yourself with these attributes before diving into the game can significantly enhance your gaming experience.

To simplify the class selection for newcomers, we have compiled a comprehensive tier list to aid your decision-making.

The Fighter class stands out as arguably the most powerful selection at Avowed’s launch and is particularly accommodating for new players unfamiliar with the RPG genre. The early stages of the game can be quite challenging; hence abilities like Toughness and Constant Recovery, available from Level 1, are significantly beneficial.

Although the Fighter may not have the same offensive firepower as the Wizard, its potential for temporary buffs transforms it into a formidable force on the battlefield. Skills like Barbaric Shout, Devastating Criticals, and Brawn, which unlock at Level 5, provide notable enhancements to your overall combat effectiveness.

Building your character around Fighter abilities ensures a durable and powerful presence in combat. At Level 15, you even gain the capability to summon a bear as an ally, further amplifying your combat prowess.

Wizard

If you choose to embrace the arcane arts as a Wizard, you’re likely to excel in terms of damage output compared to the Fighter and Ranger. However, this class comes with the trade-off of reduced defensive capabilities while wielding a Grimoire, necessitating a keen focus on evasion during battles.

The Wizard’s Level 1 abilities are exceptional, with spells such as Minor Missiles and Chill Blades standing out for their effectiveness. Moreover, Wizards access a broader range of spells compared to any other class, often leading to indecision regarding which skills to choose.

As you progress, focusing on Frost abilities appears to yield the greatest results. This direction solidifies your effectiveness as you navigate through the leveling process, making specialized builds essential.

Although the Ranger ranks slightly lower than the other two classes, this should not deter you from considering it. Effectiveness as a Ranger is largely contingent on your ability to consistently execute skill shots, posing a unique challenge.

The Level 1 ability Steady Aim is pivotal, as it slows down time when aiming your shots, significantly increasing your chances of hitting distant targets. By coupling this with Level 5’s Marksmanship, your damage output from afar can become quite impressive.

While primarily excelling in ranged combat, several Ranger abilities empower melee capabilities, making the class an excellent choice for players interested in a hybrid approach. Additionally, Rangers can also have a bear companion, ensuring they are not lacking in companionship on their adventures.

And that encapsulates the core aspects of the classes within Avowed!
