Obsidian Entertainment has unveiled its latest open-world RPG, Avowed. This expansive game provides players with the freedom to craft their own characters and navigate the main storyline at their own pace.
One of the standout features of Avowed is the ability to alter your character’s appearance even after extensive playtime. Unlike many titles that restrict players to a single outfit throughout their journey, Avowed empowers users to customize their character’s look, offering a transmogrification system that allows transformations even after hours of gameplay.
Changing Outfits in Avowed

With over 60 diverse outfits and armor sets available for players to unlock, choosing the right combination is essential for enhancing gameplay. To change your character’s appearance:
- Access the main game menu.
- Navigate to the inventory section.
- Select and equip your preferred armor, including chest pieces, gauntlets, boots, and more.
Understanding the Transmog System

One common scenario in RPGs is finding a visually stunning piece of armor that falls short in defense, leaving players torn between aesthetics and practical benefits. Avowed addresses this dilemma with its innovative transmogrification system, drawing inspiration from popular titles like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla.
This feature allows users to enjoy the visual design of any chosen clothing while retaining the statistics and attributes of another. For players who prioritize style as much as effectiveness, this system proves invaluable.
To utilize the transmog feature in Avowed, follow these simple steps:
- Open your inventory and go to the armor section.
- Equip the armor or outfit offering the best stats (Right Trigger on Xbox, left-click on PC).
- Select the desired outfit for visual customization.
- Press the Left Trigger on Xbox or right-click on PC to complete the transmogrification.
Upon completion, your character will sport the selected outfit while benefiting from the original armor’s stats. It’s worth noting that the transmog system works with any outfit, even unique armor pieces. Unfortunately, as of now, weapon appearances cannot be altered using this system.
Changing Companion Outfits

In Avowed, companions also boast various outfits, each equipped with unique stats. Changing a companion’s armor involves a different approach compared to your character’s gear.
To alter a companion’s appearance, players must first set up camp. Once established, enter the main tent and select the companion whose outfit you wish to modify. After choosing the desired appearance, equip it and exit the tent. Your companion will don their new armor the next time you venture out of camp.
