BABYMONSTER’s Ahyeon has sparked a stir among Korean netizens with her vocals in a recent performance, receiving both positive and negative feedback.
On June 13, 2024, BABYMONSTER made an appearance on Mnet’s “M! Countdown”to showcase their single “LIKE THAT”from their debut album, “BABYMONS7ER.”The girl group was gifted this song by Charlie Puth.
Ever since her appearance on YG Entertainment’s “Last Evaluation,”Ahyeon has been receiving praise for her distinct vocals. Her powerful high notes while performing Charlie Puth’s “Dangerously”and during BABYMONSTER’s debut song “SHEESH”have garnered admiration from Korean netizens, who have been applauding her vocal abilities.
Despite this, the idol is receiving a mix of responses to her singing abilities.
After BABYMONSTER’s appearance on “M! Countdown,”a post titled “BABYMONSTER’s Ahyeon screaming during recent performances”was published on Nate Pann on June 19. The post quickly gained traction and received more than 100,000 views.
Despite being a fan of Ahyeon, the original poster expresses disappointment in her recent performances, claiming that she has been screaming during her high notes. They also mention that foreign fans have been consistently pointing this out in the comments section of BABYMONSTER’s performances.
Ruka’s rap in the song makes her screaming even more distinctive, as her vocal tone differs from his.
Despite Korean netizens’ agreement, many have expressed concern over her performance style. They feel that she pushes herself too hard, resulting in strained vocals and excessive screaming. Fans are hopeful that she will focus on singing properly, as she is a gifted vocalist. However, some have criticized her loud screaming, which has caused confusion as to why she doesn’t stick to the recorded version during her performances.
Despite the criticism, there were also many supporters who came to her defense. They argued that as a rookie, she may have been trying to energize the crowd and showcase her talents. Additionally, some pointed out that in previous performances, she seemed to excel.
