Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Introduces Hectic Real-Time Combat for the First Time

If you’ve ever been curious about what a real-time combat system in Baldur’s Gate 3 would look like, you’re in luck—one modder has turned that idea into a reality.

With the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 for PC, we have witnessed some incredibly creative modders developing new maps and introducing exciting new scenes within the game. Although it’s still early in the modding process, the future looks promising as the potential appears limitless.

As part of the growing trend of Baldur’s Gate 3 mods, the modder known as tinybike has redefined the combat mechanics in the game. Moving away from the traditional D&D-inspired turn-based combat, their mod offers a real-time combat experience where the action unfolds seamlessly, as demonstrated in a video clip on YouTube.

The showcased gameplay features exploration within the Dank Crypt during Act 1, where players can encounter Withers. In this real-time combat scenario, the character is continuously on the move, attacking, and repositioning without interruption. Notably, they can heal even while being struck by an arrow simultaneously.

While the player only controls a single character in this instance, the chaos of real-time combat is evident as everything takes place at a rapid pace. One can only imagine how much more frenetic the battles would become with multiple companions and a greater number of enemies present.

However, the modder has acknowledged this, stating that the attack speed is currently “a bit much” and that there are “lots of details to iron out” to create a fully functional combat mode.

As of now, the mod author has indicated in the comments that this mod remains a “very rough draft” and hinted at the possible addition of a pause feature if they can “figure out a good way” to implement it.

Despite its current state, it will be fascinating to witness the mod’s evolution and its impact in-game once it is fully developed. Baldur’s Gate 3 already features a mod that allows players to experience it as a roguelike, focusing exclusively on combat and leveling up.

Integrating this real-time combat mod with existing mods could fundamentally transform the gaming experience.
