Baldur’s Gate 3 player shares tip for defeating Ethel quickly

Baldur’s Gate 3 players have found creative ways to beat bosses, and one of them has shared his best method for making the Witch fight much easier.

The Witch in Baldur’s Gate 3 first introduces herself as Aunt Ethel at the Emerald Grove. However, she proves to be a difficult boss to tackle. Not only is the path to finding her perilous, but she’s also a badass.

Once you find her in her dilapidated house in the swamp, you discover that she has captured Mayrina and wants to keep her baby. After a worrying conversation, she makes Mayrina disappear and sends red caps after you. Normally, she becomes invisible and flees this first fight to take refuge in her lair.

However, one player found a way to keep her inside his house.

Reddit user u/dozakiin shared his tip. “I cast an arcane bolt on the stairs and killed her upstairs,” he explained. “The fight was incredibly easy. The redcaps are no longer aggressive now that she is gone, and when I came down I had some very pleasant interactions with the man who was previously petrified.

Some Baldur’s Gate 3 players had discovered this trick before, but they mentioned a downside to this method. If you don’t go down to her lair to fight her, it’s less likely she’ll offer you a reward for letting her live.

When you fight her in the lair, she will offer you a lock of her hair which will increase an attribute of your choice. “Ethel is a source of +1 ability for me,” commented one player.

However, depending on the type of game you’re looking for, players have found this tip helpful for an easier fight. Typically, players encounter the Witch of Baldur’s Gate 3 when they are still at a fairly low level. This tip therefore makes the confrontation with her a little more manageable.
