Larian Studios has acknowledged a fan-requested modification to Baldur’s Gate 3’s Honour Mode, and has also made changes to the other difficulty settings in the game.
Despite being a mostly faithful adaptation of the D&D 5e rules, Baldur’s Gate 3 does not include one significant monster mechanic from the tabletop game: Legendary Actions. This feature can only be found in Honour Mode, the game’s ultra-difficult Ironman mode.
Boss monsters are capable of performing additional actions at the end of a player character’s turn through the use of Legendary Actions. This not only increases their strength, but also allows them to react to the party and avoid being overwhelmed by the party’s actions.
Currently, Legendary Actions are exclusive to Honour Mode, but that is set to change. Larian Studios has recently announced that Patch 7, which has been delayed, will allow players to face the more powerful enemies from Honour Mode in other difficulty settings. Fans on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Reddit community are delighted with this update.
Dror Ragzlin can unleash his spider buddies in all modes
“One user mentioned that they had just started another playthrough, but the news of Honor Mode coming to Custom Mode has made them consider putting it on hold until it is released. They have always been interested in playing through it, but the single save feature was a deterrent.”
“Some users expressed excitement over the addition of Honour Mode rules to Custom. One user wrote, “Finally, I’ve been waiting for so long!”while another exclaimed, “HOORAY.”Others shared their desire to play Honour Mode without the single save feature.
There is a concern raised by one fan about the current Honor Mode, stating “I came here specifically to post about this. Since I play through Geforce Now, having a single save is not feasible. I am very excited to be able to customize with Honor rules!”
Other rulesets, like Honour Mode, can employ the Legendary Actions, and certain foes may even acquire additional ones. These may consist of Dror Ragzlin being able to form an alliance with giant spiders and the Bulette developing a move known as “Shredding Scales,”which does not appear to be a pleasant experience.
If you’re planning to do another run of Baldur’s Gate 3 with these options, you’ll have to wait until Patch 7 is released. It’s probably better to wait instead of risking another challenging Honour Mode playthrough while the patch is still in development.
