In Baldur’s Gate 3, one of the most popular Cantrips has an extensive dialogue recorded that spans several hours, even surpassing the amount found in some feature films.
It is rare to come across a Bard in Baldur’s Gate 3 or D&D 5e who does not rely on the Vicious Mockery Cantrip. This Cantrip, exclusive to the class spell list, allows players to verbally attack their enemies with such severity that it can inflict damage to their mind and potentially even lead to their demise if they are susceptible enough.
Despite there being no Bard party members, the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 still prioritized Vicious Mockery due to its widespread popularity. In order to hear the majority of the insults, either your Tav/Dark Urge must be a Bard or you will need to multiclass/respec one of the current party members.
Another way to acquire Vicious Mockery, without having to multiclass into Bard, is by selecting the Magic Initiate: Bard Feat. This feat allows you to choose Cantrips from the Bard’s spell list.
During a recent online discussion among fans, the level of detail in the character animations for spellcasters using magic was brought up. The abundance of dialogue for Vicious Mockery was also mentioned, with the game boasting over two hours of recorded lines for the spell.
Vicious Mockery insults are available to all Tav voice options, party members (through respec or learning the Cantrip), and NPC spellcasters. Certain enemies, like Auntie Ethel, also have their own personalized versions of Vicious Mockery.
Bards are renowned for their versatility and are considered one of the top classes in Baldur’s Gate 3 for numerous reasons. One of their standout abilities is their knack for eliminating enemies with clever insults, which is particularly satisfying given the game’s abundance of new content.
