Bear Pursues 11-Year-Old Boy into Dollar Store, Jumps Over Counter

In a startling incident in Markleysburg, Pennsylvania, an 11-year-old boy found himself pursued by a black bear into a Family Dollar store. The encounter escalated dramatically when the bear leapt over the front counter, creating a scene of chaos.

Cole Frazee, the young boy at the center of this unusual confrontation, had accompanied his father to the store. As he stepped outside to check on his dad, he noticed the bear observing him closely. Rather than retreat, the bear charged toward him, prompting a swift retreat into the store.

Describing the harrowing experience, Frazee recounted how he dashed through the aisles, attempting to find refuge, and ultimately reached the cashier. Together, they climbed onto the counter for safety as the bear roamed the store. When the bear turned away, they seized the opportunity to escape and hurried to a locked car awaiting them outside.

Security footage shared by CBS details the bear’s bold actions moments after chasing Frazee into the store. The video shows the bear jumping over the counter and remaining inside for approximately ten minutes before making its exit through the front entrance. Meanwhile, Frazee and his family stayed secured in their vehicle until they were assured it was safe to depart.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has noted that this time of year typically sees bears actively foraging for food, which can lead to increased and sometimes alarming encounters with humans.
