After previously featuring on Below Deck Season 10, Olympian Gigi Fernandez made a return for another charter on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9. However, according to fans, her experience this time around was described as a ‘disaster’.
Over the years, the Below Deck franchise has frequently seen the return of familiar charter guests, including Dean Slover and Timothy Sykes.
On June 17, Olympic tennis player Gigi Fernandez returned to Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 3 as the primary charter guest, making a comeback on the show.
The individual who won the gold medal had previously appeared on Below Deck Season 10. After her stint on the St. David, she developed a friendship with Captain Sandy Yawn.
Upon her debut on Below Deck, Gigi’s actions of bringing her Olympic gold medals onto the boat and offering to show them to the crew were met with criticism from fans on Reddit, who found her behavior to be “cringe-worthy”.
Despite this, viewers’ perceptions of Gigi on Below Deck Med shifted when they witnessed her dissatisfaction with the food on board and showed their support for her.
During the breakfast service, she complained to Captain Sandy about her huevos rancheros being cold and requested that Chef Johnathan Shillingford take a look at it. Fans took notice of the situation on social media after she informed Captain Sandy.
A fan expressed their disappointment with the quality of food being served to Gigi Fernandez by the “chef”, stating that as an icon, she deserves much better. This comment was posted on X.

In addition to consuming food that was subpar and insufficiently heated, Gigi and her companions encountered other challenges during their charter on Below Deck Med.
When she and a group of friends were paddle boarding with deckhand Nathan Gallagher, they drifted too far out to sea. As a result, another boat had to come and bring them back to shore.
Despite facing a disastrous charter on the Mustique so far, Gigi’s group, along with Captain Sandy Yawn and the Season 9 crew, are determined to turn things around and earn a good tip.
