Surrounding yourself with the best allies in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple can take you from average schoolboy to Champion of Paldea. Here are the 10 best Pokémon to catch.
Pokémon Scarlet and Purple mark a first in the series with their full open world. Players have the freedom to explore the vast world of Paldea however they wish, enjoying nearly unlimited content available at any time through a non-linear progression story.
Whether your goal is to complete the story of Pokémon Scarlet and Purple in record time or immerse yourself in exploring Paldea with your friends, building a strong and versatile Pokémon team is essential.
Here is a selection of 10 formidable Pokémon that will help you during your adventure.
Note: This list does not include any legendary Pokémon and is limited to one paradoxical Pokémon in order to offer a majority of Pokémon accessible very early in your game.
10. Gallame
Regulars of the Pokémon franchise love Gallame for a surprising reason: it is particularly effective at capturing other Pokémon. Indeed, this Psychic/Combat creature learns Hypnosis but also and above all Slash which allows you to always leave the opposing Pokémon at 1PV.
In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, as in their predecessors, Gallame is a sure bet!
9. Tomberro
Adding a Pokémon from the last generation to your team is always a real pleasure, and Tomberro is certainly one of the candidates who deserve to follow you in your wanderings.
Indeed, the evolution of the very cute Toutombe has a unique ability: Posthumous Homage. The latter inflicts increased damage for each KO Pokémon in your team. If he is the last survivor of your team, Tomberro will deal no less than 300 damage with this ability, allowing him to KO any non-Normal Pokémon in a single hit.
8. Carmadura or Malvalame
Depending on your version of the game, you will be able to transform Charbambin into its Fire/Psychic evolution Carmadura (in Pokémon Scarlet) or into its Fire/Ghost Malvalame evolution (in Pokémon Violet).
On paper, Malvalame is slightly more effective thanks to his better Speed stat. Nonetheless, both animated armors are excellent companions that will wreak havoc in combat.
7. Gromago
Gromago is undoubtedly the hardest Pokémon to obtain in Scarlet and Purple. To evolve Mordudor, you will need to collect no less than 999 Mordudor Coins scattered throughout the four corners of Paldea.
Once done, you will have in your hands one of the most powerful Pokémon of the ninth generation, with excellent stats and an incredible ability making it immune to statuses.
6. Monaflemite
The lazy Pokémon has simply incredible stats, even surpassing those of the majority of legendary creatures. In return, Monaflemit can only attack every other turn.
Despite this huge flaw, Monaflemit inflicts a lot of damage and can take just as much damage. Remember to switch Pokémon after attacking, and that annoying ability won’t really be annoying anymore!
5. Forgelina
The Fairy/Steel Type is overpowering in Pokémon, since it offers no less than 9 resistances for 2 unfortunate weaknesses (Fire and Ground). It is therefore no surprise that the newcomer Forgelina stands out as one of the best Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet.
As if her Fairy/Steel typing wasn’t enough, Forgelina has one of the best signature abilities in existence. Mastoc Hammer inflicts 160 damage (Steel Stab) with 100% accuracy, with the only drawback of not being able to be used twice in a row.
4. Superdofin
Many trainers were unpleasantly surprised to discover that Superdofin had exactly the same appearance as its pre-evolution Dofin. However, Superdofin’s true strength (and look) is linked to his Supermutation Talent.
Once Superdofin leaves and rejoins the battlefield, he gains his Super form which he will maintain throughout the fight. In this form, the Water Pokémon benefits from excellent stats coupled with powerful offensive abilities.
So it’s a very unique Pokémon that takes a bit of getting set up, but it’s absolutely devastating once it adopts its superhero form.
3. Carchacrok
One of the franchise’s most popular Pokémon makes a strong return in Scarlet and Purple.
As always, its incredible design, its advantageous stats and its range of powerful attacks make Garchomp an essential Pokémon, and a sure value to add to your team.
2. Lancers
After delighting many fans when it appeared in Pokémon Sword and Shield, the Dragon/Ghost Pokémon Lanssorian is just as exceptional in Scarlet and Violet.
He has one of the best Speed stats in the game, a very good Attack stat and powerful abilities of several types. Lanssorien is an excellent glass cannon that will make short work of PvE fights.
Its only fault? It is exclusive to Pokémon Violet. Fortunately, Pokémon Scarlet players will be able to easily trade it with a friend or through the Redeem Code system.
1. Fleet-Wick
The paradoxical version of Fireforest is undoubtedly one – if not the – best non-legendary Pokémon of this generation.
With 135 Speed and 135 Special Attack, Fleet-Wick is capable of atomizing just about any creature that comes in front of him. However, be careful with its HP and mediocre Defense which make it particularly vulnerable to extremely fast physical Pokémon.
