With Dragon-type Pokémon appearing more frequently in the wild thanks to the latest event, Pokémon Go veterans are warning players to keep them around, to avoid making a costly mistake.
Pokémon Go is littered (or overrun with Miamiasm) with events throughout the year, and the latest, known as the Pokémon Go Lunar New Year 2024 event, fills the streets with Dragon-type Pokémon for celebrate the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese Zodiac.
With rare creatures like Drampa added to Pokémon Go, and less common creatures like Giknot, Cleaver, and others roaming around: it’s the perfect time to strengthen your beast library, especially if you like to walk on the wyvern side of life.
However, while it might seem like a great idea to start evolving baby dragons like Griknot into their powerful counterparts such as Garchomp, some Pokémon Go players are actually warning others to wait a bit, and for a very long time. good reason.
Pokémon Go Players Warn to Keep Dragon Pokémon Ahead of Upcoming Event
Pokémon Go player u/dark__tyranitar shared a post on Reddit, titled “Keep Your Dragons” along with a long and informative explainer.
They share their advice in the post, saying “During the upcoming Carnival of Love event next week, we are supposed to get 2 XL Candies by evolving a Pokémon. If you capture one of the dragons now available, like Gible or Bagon, KEEP IT.”
After that, they continue, adding “If you evolve them once during the event, you will spend 24 candies in total for 2 XL candies. It’s much better than 100 candies for 1 XL candy. Also, if you have enough regular candies to evolve it twice, you will spend a total of 123 regular candies for 4 XL candies.”
This is solid advice, but other players are adding their thoughts in the comments, and not everyone agrees. One review says, “I only recommend this if you have a lot of space, and keep in mind that a lot of Dragons were Community Days after XL candies were introduced.”
Then the previous commenter adds, “Also don’t hold back from evolving good Gible or Bagon now while their relevant attacks are available. Classic Community Days for them are probably still a long way from being a thing.”
One happy user supports the post, saying “Yes, I have a whole set of saved Sonistrelles!” While another person adds, “And transfer them via the last featured hour event in February to earn the most.”
This is a great opportunity to earn Candy if you want to strengthen your Pokémon, but if you’re into competitive battles, it might not be best to keep Griknot or Drattak.
