BIBI’s Behavior at School Festival Sparks Criticism: ‘She Crossed the Line’

After a university festival, singer BIBI caused controversy with accusations of her behaving in a disrespectful manner. What actions did she take?

BIBI, the current rising singer known for her hit song “Bam Yang Gang,”was invited as a guest to perform at NamSeoul University High School Festival on April 25.

Despite it being a month since the event took place, she recently gained viral attention when a clip of her controversial remark started circulating rapidly on YouTube shorts.

BIBI was seen in the video standing on the stage of the university festival, addressing the audience with the following question:

“Who hates school? Who thinks that school is *X? (*vulgar term for male genitalia)”

Continuing on, she said:

“If I act like a dirty X, you should say, ‘Dirty X’!”

The video containing BIBI’s statement has garnered over 500,000 views since its editing. Fans of the singer quickly came to her defense, clarifying that her statement was intended as an introduction to her song, “Vengeance.”

Several students also confirmed to other online users that BIBI’s outspoken and confident personality, which has attracted many female fans, is well-known and nothing new.

Despite the fact that many people watched the clip, the general consensus among male netizens was that she had “crossed the line.”They were upset not only by her use of a derogatory term for male genitalia, but also by her disparaging comment about the school.

Despite her intentions to come across as “cool,”BIBI was mistakenly perceived as “rude”and “disrespectful”by others.

Not only was the comment made in front of students, but it was also deemed “inappropriate”for them to hear and repeat.

In the comments section, it was noted by fans that her positive reputation, which was previously boosted by the popularity of “Bam Yang Gang,”had declined and only negative feedback remained, with people stating:

  • “The school invited a singer to have fun with the students who paid tens of millions of won in tuition fees, but she’s standing there disparaging the school.”
  • “It is worthy of criticism to spread negativity at a ‘school’ festival, which is not another festival.”
  • “It is not cool and rather looks embarrassing. It’s a shame. It’s at the level.”

During the season of school festivals in April and May, BIBI has been the focus of attention due to her use of vulgar language and sexual gestures in front of students, which has been deemed unacceptable.

On May 25, she joined Choi Yena, Tiger JK and Yoon Mirae at a school festival. However, she was the only one to use the profanity, “fxxk.”

This is not the first instance in which she has been accused of behaving “inappropriately”at a university event.

In 2022, she caused controversy when she performed a “lap dance”with a male student and encouraged him to place his hand on her waist. She also kissed the fan on his cheek during the performance. There have been other incidents where she has kissed female fans and distributed condoms at events outside of Korea.

Despite her fans’ overall support for her expression of individuality through her music and unique personality, some netizens have pointed out that not all audiences may appreciate her more mature gestures. As a public figure, she may need to consider toning down certain aspects for the sake of her younger fan base.
