Microsoft launched the Bing Talk AI chatbot in February, and it has swiftly gained popularity. A few new features, such as better speed, additional sharing options, and lower limitations, are now available.
Microsoft announced modifications to the new Bing Chat preview in a blog post. Secondly, the corporation is experimenting with a “Balanced” response mode optimization that dramatically increases performance, “resulting in shorter but considerably quicker answers.” Bing already offered the ability to react in several tones, with Balanced as the default choice, alongside Precise and Creative.
The new Balanced mode appears to be significantly quicker than before, although speed was never a major issue with Bing Chat in the first place – reliability remains the primary issue. Bing, like ChatGPT, still has a low success rate with factual replies. For example, when I requested it to create a table comparing the Samsung Galaxy S23 to the iPhone 14 Pro, it indicated the S23 featured an Exynos 2200 chipset rather than a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, despite the fact that none of the linked sites referenced that chip.
Microsoft is also boosting Bing’s conversation limit from ten to fifteen messages. Bing Chat didn’t have a discussion restriction as first, but it was added after users used extended talks to persuade Bing to label itself unhappy or sentient in some way. Microsoft appears to be content with lowering the restriction now that the bot is more difficult to persuade into sounding like that.
There are also new sharing and reporting buttons available on Bing when the mouse lingers over Bing’s messages. You can click Like or Unlike, but it’s unclear what it accomplishes other than put a thumbs up or down emoji underneath the statement. A Copy button is provided for transferring the answer to your clipboard, and a Share button is provided for creating a link to your response. Bing Chat shared links launch the selected message in a new conversation, allowing you to ask Bing follow-up questions about it.
However, the links only function if the online Bing Chat is already open – accessing them in Chrome or another browser prompts you to use Microsoft Edge, and you must join the Bing waiting (which no longer appears to exist). For those who do not have Microsoft accounts or Edge installed, displaying a read-only version of the message would be useful, leaving screenshots and the Copy button as the best option to share comments.
Lastly, Microsoft is improving the Creative tone to accommodate more context in chats, and the Skype version may now be added to group conversations in when at least one person has access to the new Bing.
