Black Butler: Ciel and Sebastian Uncover the Identity of the Headmaster and the Mystery of Weston College in Season 4 Episode 9

The ninth episode of season 4 of Black Butler, titled His Butler, His Butler, Having a Laugh, was aired on Saturday, June 8, 2024, on Tokyo MX, BS11, and other channels in Japan. This episode uncovered the unexpected destiny of Derrick Arden and the other missing members from Weston College.

Furthermore, the episode revealed the enigmatic identity of the headmaster of Weston College. Once more, Cloverworks has expertly brought to the screen the iconic scenes from the original material. It is worth mentioning that Black Butler season 4 episode 9 adapted chapter 82 and half of chapter 83, staying true to Yana Toboso’s manga series.

The Biggest Secret of Weston College Revealed in Black Butler Season 4 Episode 9 Highlights

Beginning where the previous episode left off, season 4 episode 9 of Black Butler sees Derrick Arden unexpectedly arrive at the Midnight Tea Party. Both Ciel Phantomhive and the four Prefects are taken aback by the boy’s appearance as he emerges from the door at the vice principal’s behest.

Upon sighting Derrick Arden, Herman Greenhill is taken aback. Upon further observation, he notices that the boy is constantly muttering about the scent of tea. Without warning, Derrick suddenly lunges at Herman and viciously tears flesh from his right arm in episode 9 of Black Butler’s fourth season.

The Prefects are saved by the Drudges as chaos ensues due to Derrick’s animalistic actions. While this is happening, Ciel Phantomhive notices a stitch mark on Derrick Arden’s forehead and recognizes that it resembles the creatures he encountered on the Campania.

Immediately, Ciel calls upon Sebastian Michaelis to capture Derrick. Using the tablecloth, the butler successfully subdues Derrick in Black Butler season 4 episode 9. Once apprehended, Sebastian tends to Herman’s injuries.

Upon realizing the involvement of the Aurora Society, a secret organization that conducts experiments on reviving human bodies, Sebastian contacts the director of Karnstein hospital, Rian Stoker, and forms a partnership with him. In addition, he uncovers the true identity of the headmaster, who turns out to be the Undertaker.

Revelations in Black Butler Season 4 Episode 9: Undertaker’s Ties to the Phantomhive Family and the Prefects’ Revelation about Derrick

In episode 9 of Black Butler season 4, a flashback scene is shown which uncovers the truth about Undertaker’s identity. The episode reveals that Undertaker was a connection of the Phantomhive family, passed down to Ciel from his predecessor.

Despite being a troublesome informant, he was also known as a Grim Reaper by Ciel and his companions. A brief flashback then reveals Undertaker’s ties to the Phantomhive family before Black Butler season 4 episode 9 returns to the present.

As his time as headmaster comes to an end, the Grim Reaper bursts into laughter and expresses pity. Meanwhile, Sebastian holds the Prefects accountable for the death of Derrick and their decision to enlist the Aurora Society to bring him back to life. He demands an explanation for their extreme actions.

The butler is informed by the Prefects that Derrick Arden was not a suitable candidate for enrollment at Weston College. In episode 9 of Black Butler season 4, a flashback is presented, revealing the events that took place a year prior.

Upon their appointment as Prefects, Gregory, Lawrence, Herman, and Redmond uncover several incidents of bullying within the institution. In light of this, Derrick Arden, a reliable student, promises to investigate the matter thoroughly.

One day, Derrick presents the Prefects with a letter containing a poem that is specifically written for them. After reading the poem, Redmond is captivated by its contents. He realizes that it is a summons addressed to the Prefects, cleverly incorporating the details of the date, time, and location within the lines of the poem.

The Prefect of the Red House realizes that there is a message requesting their presence in the music room on Thursday night. However, he is unable to comprehend the meaning behind the last phrase, “deprived of his brightness.”

Upon reaching the music room in Black Butler season 4 episode 9, the Prefects are taken aback by the light seeping through the partially-ajar door. To their dismay, they witness Derrick and his companions cruelly tormenting a pair of classmates.

As Redmond finally comprehends the true meaning of “robbed of his light,”the room falls into an eerie silence. The episode concludes with the Prefects in shock, witnessing the dark side of Derrick Arden.
