Black Ops 6 fans fear Batman-inspired weapon will be OP in multiplayer

The Black Ops 6 campaign features a homing throwing knife that bears a strong resemblance to the remote control Batarang from the Batman franchise. This has caused concern among fans who worry that it may cause chaos in multiplayer mode.

During the 2024 Gamescom Opening Night Live event, Raven Software presented a play-through of a campaign mission from Black Ops 6. In the trailer, an operator can be seen using a homing knife during a gunfight. This unique projectile can be steered and detonated upon pressing a button.

CharlieIntel posted a video showcasing the new equipment item, which bears a striking resemblance to the remote-controlled Batarang featured in various Batman video games.

The homing throwing knife in Call of Duty operates similarly: players possess full control over the knife and can navigate it through obstacles until it reaches its intended target.

Although Raven Software did not mention the game modes in which the equipment item will be available, multiplayer enthusiasts are uncertain whether they should be enthusiastic or apprehensive about its potential to dominate matches.

One commenter responded, “Please refrain from bringing this to multiplayer so that we can all remain happy.”

If the homing throwing knife is added to multiplayer, it remains uncertain whether it will be a lethal equipment available to all operators upon spawning or a killstreak that must be earned.

Making it a killstreak or a field upgrade could restrict the frequency of its usage in a single match. This could be achieved by implementing a cooldown timer between each use, as well as limiting the number of times it can be earned as a killstreak or equipped as a field upgrade by Treyarch.

“Another user agreed, stating that using this as a scorestreak would be perfect. The thought of landing a cross-map kill with it is just exhilarating.”

The camera’s use of slow motion effects in the campaign reveal has led others to believe that it would not be feasible to implement in multiplayer.

A third player argued that the camera, which allows for slow motion control of the knife, will not be present for obvious reasons.

Treyarch has scheduled to announce further details on the multiplayer aspect of CoD Next on Aug. 30.
