Season 2 of Black Ops 6 and Warzone has officially introduced cross-play support for Ranked Play, although this feature is currently limited to a certain segment of players.
Activision acknowledged that the integration of the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system did not meet expectations at the beginning of Season 01, particularly for Ranked Play. This admission was made in light of the persistent cheating issues that plagued the multiplayer mode.
As of November 2024, Treyarch admitted to ongoing cheating problems affecting the Ranked Play experience. In response, the developers have rolled out a substantial update aimed at improving detection models to combat aim botting and to reduce the number of innocent players being unjustly banned.
Introduced Features in Season 2: Console-Specific Cross-Play
According to reports from CharlieIntel, the much-anticipated console-only cross-play feature will be implemented at the beginning of Season 2.
Effective January 28, players utilizing PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S will have the flexibility to choose their preferred lobby settings: players can opt to engage with everyone, restrict matches to consoles only, or entirely disable the feature.
This shift has been met with excitement from console players, while some PC gamers have expressed frustration regarding the reasoning behind the policy change.

Further, on December 23, Treyarch confirmed that cross-play for Ranked Play is indeed in effect for all players, aiming to enhance the matchmaking system by connecting players of similar ranks and skill ratings.
Despite this development, the addition of cross-play in Season 2 remains a point of contention among players. One user expressed relief, saying, “It’s nice to see something changed for the better; why it wasn’t included from the start is beyond me.” Another echoed this sentiment, stating, “This is what we’ve been waiting for.”
However, concerns linger among some players who fear that reduced player counts on PC could negatively impact the gaming experience. One sarcastically commented, “Queue times are gonna get awful, great.”
As the update goes live, the true effects of these changes will become apparent. For now, players can look forward to exploring all the weapon adjustments included in Season 2.
