Speculation surrounding a complete remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been buzzing for years, but recent insights suggest that an official announcement could take place as soon as this month.
While Skyrim has captivated audiences as one of the most beloved RPGs of its time, it was Oblivion that truly elevated the Elder Scrolls series, redefining expectations for open-world gaming. Since its initial release in 2006, fans have eagerly anticipated the possibility of a ground-up remake that would breathe new life into this classic title.
Initially, there were hopes that a reveal might occur during January’s Xbox Developer Direct; however, the event concluded with no mention of Oblivion, showcasing only Doom: The Dark Ages from Bethesda.
As gamers continue to await the next installment, The Elder Scrolls VI, industry insider Jeff Grubb has rekindled rumors, asserting that an announcement is on the horizon.
Insider Claims Oblivion Remake Could Launch in April 2025
During a recent segment of Giant Bomb’s Power Block stream, Grubb shared that his sources indicate the long-anticipated remake is primed to “shadowdrop” imminently. He noted, “Some other rumors I’ve heard [say] April, and it’s April right now.” This suggests that the announcement, and possibly the launch, could occur very soon.
Grubb elaborated further, indicating that while a surprise event could serve as a platform for an official reveal before the release, he hasn’t received confirmation of any such event at the time of reporting.
On April 14, he provided an additional update: “Let’s update on Oblivion and the shadow drop. I’ll give people a week now. The week of April 21. It should shadow drop then, I’ve gotten separate confirmation that’s going to be the case.”

As for the potential changes in the Oblivion remake, previously leaked information suggests that this will not simply be an upgraded visual experience. According to reports from a former employee of Virtuos, the studio allegedly spearheading the project, the game is set to be “fully remade” utilizing Unreal Engine 5, providing a fresh, modern RPG experience.
This remade version is expected to enhance key gameplay mechanics, such as stamina management, sneaking, blocking, and archery. Furthermore, adjustments are planned for how enemies react to player actions—an aspect that has repeatedly drawn scrutiny in earlier iterations of both Oblivion and Skyrim. A redesigned HUD is also on the agenda.
Overall, if the circulating rumors hold true, it seems fans won’t have to wait much longer to uncover the complete transformation of this gaming landmark.
