Black Ops 7 Reintroduces Beloved Game Mode Absent Since BO4

Treyarch has officially announced the return of a beloved game mode in Black Ops 7 Season 2, marking its first appearance since 2018. This eagerly anticipated update promises a wealth of new content that will invigorate the gaming experience for fans.

The upcoming Season 2 update is poised to deliver substantial enhancements, featuring a fresh lineup of weapons and maps. It will also introduce Ranked Play and implement several modifications to the Endgame, further enriching the gameplay.

The Return of Safeguard in Black Ops 7 Season 2

For those unfamiliar, Safeguard is an exhilarating objective-based mode in which one team is tasked with escorting a robot across the map, mimicking the dynamic gameplay seen in Overwatch. Players must stay in proximity to the robot to guide it to its destination, thus creating a highly engaging atmosphere.

The defensive team, on the other hand, is focused on hindering the robot’s progress by clearing out any opposing players in the vicinity. They also have the ability to temporarily disable the robot by shooting it or using grenades, adding layers of strategy to each match.

This mode fosters intense gameplay, as all participants are driven towards a singular goal, contrasting with the multi-objective focus typical of modes like Domination.

In the latest iteration of Safeguard, players will compete for control of a D. A.W. G drone. Unlike traditional Scorestreaks, this drone will not possess offensive capabilities, adding a unique twist to the gameplay.

Safeguard originally debuted in Black Ops 3 and later featured in Black Ops 4. However, it has been notably absent from subsequent titles, including Black Ops Cold War and Black Ops 6. Interestingly, the mode was introduced to CoD Mobile in 2023, reigniting interest among fans.

The demand for Safeguard’s return has been vocal among the community for several years, and players will finally see their wishes come to fruition with the launch of Season 2 on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
