After over a week of debuting new music, the “battle”between BLACKPINK’s Lisa and BTS’s Jimin has escalated to its most critical stage – vying for positions on the Billboard charts. As two influential global artists, both Lisa and Jimin’s supporters are passionately streaming their music in hopes of achieving the top spots for their respective idols. On the initial day of release, Jimin’s lead single “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band”was ahead of Lisa’s “ROCKSTAR,”dominating the iTunes and Spotify rankings. However, the circumstances have now shifted.
On the most recent Billboard Hot 100 chart, “ROCKSTAR” had an impressive debut at #70, breaking Lisa’s previous record. At the same time, “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” landed at #88 on the Hot 100. On two of Billboard’s subsidiary charts, “ROCKSTAR” surpassed Jimin’s lead single, claiming the #1 spot on the Billboard Global 200 Excl. US and #4 on the Billboard Global 200. On the other hand, “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” only reached #7 on the Billboard Global 200 Excl. US, falling short of the top 10 on the Billboard Global 200.
Despite previously setting a K-pop record with 6.8 million Spotify streams on its first day, “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band”has faced a decline in daily streams and has even fallen behind “ROCKSTAR.”This has caused a lot of controversy as Jimin’s ranking has dropped behind Lisa’s.
Despite its many achievements, Jimin’s lead single was heavily criticized for its quality as many believed that “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band”lacked the ability to appeal to a wider audience and was only popular among fan circles. Its success was solely credited to the dedicated efforts of fans.

Despite claims that the song experienced an 800,000 daily increase in US streams and accumulated a total of 5.1 million Spotify US streams in its first week, it did not perform well on all three Billboard charts. While Spotify does not manipulate data, Billboard only takes into account genuine streams, leading to a decrease in Jimin’s placement on the charts.
In addition, Lisa faced allegations of manipulating her achievements by including “ROCKSTAR”in over 200 playlists and having it prioritized in random Spotify user playlists. Numerous users noted that even after limiting the song’s availability on the platform, it still appeared in recommendations, causing disruption to their music listening.
Despite facing controversy, Lisa and Jimin have both attained remarkable achievements through their comebacks. Their devoted fan bases have solidified the two top stars’ unwavering positions in the industry.
