In a recent update posted on their official X account, Gearbox confirmed that, “the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed.” Initially, this title was scheduled to launch on October 3, but there is currently no rescheduled date available.

Gearbox emphasized that this decision was not made lightly, as they strive to provide fans with the best gaming experience possible. Additional development and polish time are deemed essential for achieving these standards, with the studio also hinting at the inclusion of cross-save functionality in this edition.
Further clarifications from Gearbox indicate that they will keep fans updated regarding the new release schedule once their plans are finalized. While no specific date has emerged, assurances have been made that updates will follow.
In response to the indefinite delay, the developers are proactively offering refunds to all digital pre-orders. These refunds will be processed automatically over the upcoming days, ensuring that players are reimbursed promptly.
Despite the postponement, development for the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 is actively ongoing, with further announcements expected in the future.
