Danish brewing giant Carlsberg has introduced an extraordinary innovation: the world’s tiniest beer. This minuscule brew is so petite that a microscope is required for an up-close look.

Developed in partnership with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Glass Component, and miniature artist Åsa Strand, this remarkable creation measures just 12 millimeters in height. It contains a single drop of non-alcoholic beer, equating to approximately 0.005 centilitres. Understandably, this isn’t a drink that would provide any chance of inebriation.

“Even though it is small as a grain of rice and filled with a drop of beer, it symbolizes something we have long cared about: the importance of drinking responsibly, ” Carlsberg said.

Crafted in Carlsberg’s experimental brewery in Falkenberg, Sweden, this tiny beer packs an intriguing flavor despite its diminutive size. It has already gained significant attention online, with the platform Outkick humorously dubbing it “the most useless thing ever.”

Challenge: Create an Even Smaller Beer and Win $1, 000

To validate this unique venture, Carlsberg has emphasized that the accompanying photos are not generated by artificial intelligence. In an exciting twist, the company is now inviting university students to take up the challenge of brewing an even smaller beer.

In collaboration with the Student Union of the School of Engineering, Carlsberg is hosting a competition. The winner will receive 10, 000 SEK, which is roughly equivalent to $1, 000 USD, alongside a visit to Carlsberg’s research lab in Copenhagen.

Although the mini brew is obviously more of a symbolic statement than a practical beverage, it is certainly turning heads and likely eliciting laughter from beer aficionados who can’t believe its size.
