In December 2022, Jin, the oldest member of the group, began his mandatory military service, resulting in a pause for the group’s activities. This occurred during a time when BTS was experiencing unparalleled success in both the local and international music industries, causing Jin’s enlistment to be a major source of disappointment for the worldwide ARMY (BTS’s fan base). However, his discharge is now only four days away.
Jin’s discharge from the military at the 5th Infantry Division in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province is scheduled for June 12th. This holds a special significance for the ARMY as it falls just one day before BTS’s debut anniversary on the 13th. The group typically commemorates this occasion with their ‘FESTA’ event, and fans are eagerly anticipating Jin’s potential involvement this year, considering his discharge date.
Despite being in the midst of his military service, Jin remained dedicated to his fans. He fulfilled his promise to the ARMY by confirming his attendance at the ‘2024 FESTA’ offline event on June 13th in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The event will feature a ‘Jin’s Greetings’ hugging session for 1,000 fans and various segments showcasing different sides of Jin in ‘June 13th, 2024, Seokjin, Clear Skies,’ which is sure to excite fans all around the world.
This fan event holds special significance as it was initiated by Jin in order to spend valuable and intimate time with the ARMY.
The youngest member Jungkook participated in the ‘2024 FESTA’ festivities by releasing a special fan song. On June 7th, he unveiled his self-written and composed digital single, ‘Never Let Go,’ expressing his gratitude and affection for the ARMY with the powerful message, “Let’s always hold onto each other’s hands.”
By 9 AM on the 8th, ‘Never Let Go’ had reached the top spot on the iTunes charts in 96 countries/regions, such as the US, Italy, and Japan. Additionally, it held the number one position on both the ‘Worldwide iTunes Song’ and ‘European iTunes Song’ charts as of the 7th.
To celebrate the release, Jungkook posted a sincere message on the fan communication platform Weverse, expressing his appreciation and wishing for fans to enjoy the song. He detailed the process of creating the song and expressed disappointment that he was unable to finish the performance video due to time limitations, and kindly asked for fans’ understanding.
Following Jin’s discharge, BTS intends to gradually conclude their hiatus. The next member to be released from military service is J-Hope, anticipated on October 17th. The remaining members are also expected to complete their military duties around the same time, thus enabling BTS to resume full-group activities.
RM and V, who joined the military on December 11th of last year, will complete their service and be discharged on June 10th, 2025. Jimin and Jungkook, who enlisted on December 12th of the same year, will also complete their service and be discharged on June 11th, 2025. Suga, who started his service as a social worker in September of last year, will be released on June 21st, 2025.
BTS is expected to make a complete group comeback in approximately one year. By their 12th debut anniversary on June 13th next year, all members, except for Suga, will have completed their military service. The second half of 2025 will mark the beginning of a new phase for BTS, showcasing a more mature image. Fans are eagerly awaiting the group’s post-military service music and concepts that will captivate a global audience.
