Bungie’s eagerly awaited extraction shooter, Marathon, inadvertently provided an unexpected addition: a download of the popular game Destiny 2. This mishap occurred when pre-orders for Marathon opened, leading numerous Steam users to find Destiny 2 automatically installing on their profiles.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) dated January 20, Bungie confirmed that the situation stemmed from a technical issue but assured fans that it has been resolved.

Resolution of Destiny 2 Issues

In addition to separating the pre-order for Marathon from Destiny 2, Bungie addressed another significant concern affecting players of Destiny 2. This issue involved players being unable to claim a special Marathon-themed cosmetic bundle that they had purchased.

The bundle features an Exotic Ghost Shell, an Exotic Ship, and an Exotic Sparrow, all of which can now be collected by visiting the Special Deliveries Kiosk located in the Tower.

Initially, the reveal of Marathon faced criticism, with mixed reactions from playtesters due to some plagiarized artwork being discovered, prompting Bungie to delay the game from its projected September 2025 launch. However, following a revamped reveal in late 2025, the title showcased improved visuals and gameplay, leading to significantly more positive responses.

Since the commencement of pre-orders, the game’s visibility has surged, positioning it among Steam’s top sellers, peaking at fifth place—above Warframe and just below Marvel Rivals.

Scheduled for release on March 5, 2026, Marathon will be available for $40. For the latest updates, visit our wiki.
