While Worst Ex Ever is the most recent true crime sensation on Netflix, all four cases featured in its first season are receiving criticism, causing viewers to feel enraged.
The new docu-series, a spinoff of Worst Roommate Ever, delves into the dark side of relationships. The first episode features Ben Foster, a violent abuser who fled after assaulting Justine Siemens. His escape sparked a manhunt, which tragically ended in the deaths of three individuals.
Without a doubt, the second episode, ‘Betrayed by the Badge’, is the most enraging as it details Seemona Sumasar’s wrongful imprisonment for a crime she did not commit. Her abuser, Jerry Ramrattan, was responsible for her unjust incarceration, which lasted for several months.
The third episode delves into the story of Mei Li and Rosa Hill, a mother-daughter duo whose custody battle ended in tragedy. The fourth installment recounts the heartbreaking case of Amanda Canales, who fled from her abusive husband, Kevin Lewis, only to be met with a horrific fate.
Despite the third episode, numerous viewers of Worst Ex Ever are concerned that the docu-series sheds light on a disturbing pattern of victims being failed by law enforcement.
Not all police departments are to blame, as several officers and detectives are featured in the docu-series discussing their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
However, in Sumasar’s situation, a basic inquiry into Ramrattan’s history would have revealed that she was not at fault. This was evident to the extent that she won a lawsuit against Nassau County for $2 million.
In Episode 1, the situation involves Foster’s mistreatment of his then-girlfriend, Amber. She is featured in the documentary series to reveal her experience, including one incident in which she was able to escape and contact the authorities.
Despite Foster’s history of abuse, Amber was arrested by law enforcement after he claimed that she had initiated the incident during their questioning.
Despite the revelation of the truth, Amber still had to endure 18 hours in a jail cell. However, this was not her primary concern, as Foster went on to abduct and harm two of his future partners and ultimately kill two innocent men while evading the authorities.
According to Amber, the justice system in this case failed to protect Justine, who was a victim of Ben’s escalating abuse and growing danger.
“Had they given proper attention to my story and Jaimee’s, this unfortunate event could have been avoided and two lives could have been spared.”
Ever since its release on the streaming service yesterday (August 28), viewers have been expressing their thoughts and opinions.
In response to the Foster case, a Redditor expressed their desire to see the police do their job properly by putting away individuals like him before they have the chance to continue attempting to murder every woman they are involved with.
“It is appalling and blatantly racist that the police would subject a woman who was heavily bleeding to 18 hours in jail based solely on the word of a male. I hope she took legal action against the police department for their actions.”
“One person responded, “If you thought the police’s actions were terrible, just wait until you watch episode two – it’s absolutely unbelievable.”Another person chimed in, “That scene really got me fired up.”
A fourth person added, “Every episode filled me with anger! What the hell? These individuals are supposed to be our protectors in law enforcement. It sickens me.”
According to one individual, this recurring theme appears to run throughout the entire season. They also mentioned that they were currently on the final episode and found themselves shaking their head. Another person proposed renaming the show to “getting railroaded by law enforcement.”
A similar conversation took place on a different Reddit post, with one viewer expressing, “After watching the first three episodes, I am absolutely fuming. I frequently watch true crime shows and it’s rare for something to provoke such a strong reaction in me.”
Despite Canales being attacked outside of her home prior to the murder, what infuriates many is the stark contrast to the case presented in Episode 4. Despite the incident, police informed Canales that they did not have sufficient evidence to arrest Lewis.

Despite the fact that her sister Alisha Canales-McGuire was murdered at Canales’ home, it took several months before an arrest was finally made. In the Netflix documentary, Canales-McGuire reveals that she had been attempting to have her attacker charged with the second assault that had occurred.
“However, there was a lot of discussion about which department should handle the case before it was finally filed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until the murder occurred that progress was made on the assault charges. This is especially frustrating because if the perpetrator had been arrested and detained, the murder could have been prevented.”
After viewing Worst Ex Ever, a viewer expressed frustration with the final episode where the woman is violently attacked by her ex upon arriving home.
“It is highly likely that she has obtained a restraining order against him by now, or at the very least, he has previously assaulted her, threatened her, and they are going through a tumultuous divorce,”the writer stated.
The police questioned her about whether she was certain it was him, and she responded, “Well, no. My eyes were injured and bleeding at the time.”The police then went to the suspect’s residence, where he had just arrived on a bicycle despite the late hour of midnight or 1am. However, he did not have a phone in his possession. The police determined that there was not enough evidence to arrest him since the witness was unable to positively identify him.
Is it difficult to bring him in for questioning? Are they hesitant to make arrests due to the fear of wrongfully accusing someone and facing financial consequences? It appears that they are quite willing to arrest certain individuals with minimal evidence, as seen in a few other cases.
