Cat Forbidden from School After Repeated Intrusions and Triggering Alarms

A feline friend has recently been prohibited from a school campus in Glasgow, Scotland, after causing quite the stir. This playful ginger tabby, affectionately named Rebel by students and staff at Clyde College’s Cardonald campus, had spent several months meandering throughout classrooms, even triggering the security alarm on at least one occasion.

Office pets are increasingly common, often providing a cheerful atmosphere at workplaces where people bring their dogs or cats for a few days. Yet, not every four-legged visitor is welcomed as an official office mascot. Rebel’s situation exemplifies this case of an uninvited guest.

The Ban on Campus

As of February 26, college officials issued a ban on Rebel’s presence, asking both students and staff to refrain from feeding or encouraging him to linger around the premises. The college stated, “We’re really proud that all our campuses are inviting, friendly spaces – but sadly we can’t extend that welcome to cats inside college buildings, ” affirming their commitment to maintaining an appropriate learning environment.

Despite the ban, some students have expressed a desire to build a small shelter for Rebel nearby, hoping to continue enjoying his company without disrupting college activities.

Just a few weeks earlier, a Scottish railway employee adopted a cat she discovered abandoned on a train, which also garnered significant attention. While Rebel may not yet reach the fame of Punch the monkey at the Ichikawa City Zoological and Botanical Garden in Japan, whose antics are closely followed online, he has certainly made a mark in his college community.
