Catching Shiny Galarian Birds in Pokemon Go: They Don’t Flee But Are Hard to Capture

Niantic has officially confirmed to LeekDuck that the Shiny versions of the Galarian legendary birds—Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres—will no longer flee from encounters in Pokémon Go. However, this does not guarantee that they will be easy to catch.

Since their introduction in Pokémon Go via the Daily Adventure Incense, capturing even a single one of the Galarian legendary bird trio has proven to be a daunting challenge for many trainers.

When Niantic announced the arrival of their Shiny variants during the upcoming Galarian Expedition event, fans were cautious with their excitement, believing they’d struggle to catch them regardless.

According to LeekDuck, Niantic has indeed clarified that while the Shiny Galarian birds will not run away from trainers, the chances of catching them are not guaranteed. They will make their debut during the Galarian Expedition event starting on October 4 and will remain available even after the event concludes.

Despite the fact that the Legendary Trio will not flee, catching them will not be straightforward. The catch rate is unpredictable, meaning the number of Poké Balls required to secure a catch can vary dramatically.

For instance, one encounter might consume a hefty 100 Poké Balls to achieve a catch, while another might only require five or six. Players who engage frequently might find their inventory of Poké Balls depleted, risking the chance of missing these elusive Galarian birds during an encounter.

The Galarian Expedition event kicks off on October 4, 2024, and it won’t just be Galarian Legendary Birds making their shiny debut. The Generation 8 legendary Pokémon Zamazenta will also be introduced, shortly after its counterpart Zacian, which will be added on September 26 during the Legendary Heroes event.
