Chainsaw Man overtakes Jujutsu Kaisen and Boruto on Mangaplus after the latest scandal

On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga series surpassed both Jujutsu Kaisen and Boruto on MANGA Plus’ “Hottest”rankings. According to the statistics provided, Fujimoto’s manga has received almost 600 thousand hits following the release of chapters 167 and 168. In comparison, the respective mangakas of Gege Akutami and Masashi Kishimoto are observing their series in second and third place with around 420 and 380 thousand hits each.

Despite their immense popularity, Jujutsu Kaisen and Boruto have been surpassed by Chainsaw Man, which has reclaimed its familiar position as the number one series. This can be largely attributed to its recent releases, which have caused some division among fans and the wider anime and manga community. However, this controversy has undoubtedly contributed to the success of Fujimoto’s series.

Chainsaw Man’s Popularity Boost Over Jujutsu Kaisen and Boruto Capitalizes on Perfect Timing

Despite Chainsaw Man’s recent issues being the primary reason for its success, there were also other factors that played a role. One of these is the upcoming release of the next chapter of the monthly manga series, Boruto. As time has passed since its most recent release, it is natural for readers to visit the MANGA Plus page less frequently.

Unfortunately, Jujutsu Kaisen is currently on an unexpected two-week hiatus due to Akutami’s sudden health concern. As a result, only seven pages were able to be drafted for the latest manga release. This has led to a decrease in readership as many were anticipating a full chapter.

Despite any controversies surrounding it, the success of Fujimoto’s manga should not be undermined. The fact that it has sparked debates and discussions only speaks to the popularity and quality of Fujimoto’s writing. The divisive nature of the issue also highlights the narrative strength of the series, which is a defining characteristic of its most impactful releases.

Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga series was initially serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in December 2018. This run ended in December 2020, marking the conclusion of its first part. The manga later resumed in July 2022 on the digital platform Shonen Jump+, with its second part still ongoing and regularly serialized to this day.

The television anime adaptation of Fujimoto’s manga, produced by MAPPA Studios, aired during the Fall 2022 season and was met with widespread success and acclaim. As of the writing of this article, a second season has not been confirmed. Additionally, a film based on the Bomb Girl/Reze arc is currently in production by MAPPA, though its release date has not yet been announced.
