Chris Pratt has shared intriguing insights about his future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), emphasizing his commitment to a promise made by his character, Star-Lord. Recently, he also provided a glimpse into the storyline of his upcoming film, where he portrays a detective entangled in a legal battle over the alleged murder of his wife, navigating the challenging task of proving his innocence before an AI judge.

Star-Lord’s Promising Future

In the emotionally resonant finale of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, viewers witness Peter Quill return to Earth and reconnect with his grandfather, Jason. The film closes with a heartwarming scene of the two having breakfast together, culminating in the message: “The legendary Star-Lord will return.”

Though there have been no announcements regarding Star-Lord’s return since the film’s release, Pratt expressed his enthusiasm for reprising the role in future projects: “We made a promise with Guardians of the Galaxy that Star-Lord would return – I think I’d really like to make good on that promise.”

Discussing what Quill has been up to after his return to Earth, Pratt humorously remarked, “Probably denying the fact that he was responsible for the death of Iron Man, while simultaneously trying to convince people that he was a superhero at some point.” He also suggested that the character would likely be catching up on music from the ’70s through to his return, noting, “There’s a lot of music to catch up on.”

A Dream Role: The Punisher

When asked about characters beyond the Marvel universe that he’d like to portray, Pratt promptly mentioned “The Punisher.” He explained, “He was my favorite comic book hero growing up, and I’ve always loved Punisher. I kind of get to play a version of The Punisher with James Reece in The Terminal List, but yes, The Punisher has always stood out to me.”

Currently, Jon Bernthal embodies the Punisher in the MCU, set to reprise the role in upcoming projects like Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, Pratt has his sights set on a particular storyline, stating, “Maybe Punisher 2099.”

For those unfamiliar, Punisher 2099 was introduced in 1993 by writers Pat Mills and Tony Skinner, with illustrations by Tom Morgan. This version of the character, Jacob Gallows, begins his journey as part of the Public Eye Police Force. After facing personal tragedy, he discovers the original Punisher’s war journal, compelling him to pursue justice in a dystopian future characterized by cyberpunk elements.

The narrative tackles pertinent themes surrounding societal issues and technology—a reflection of contemporary trends. Pratt’s upcoming film, Mercy, which releases on January 23, 2026, also explores similar motifs about the intersection of society and technology.
