Since its launch in April, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has made a remarkable impact in the gaming community, earning the title of Game of the Year (GOTY) and achieving significant recognition at The Game Awards. However, despite the game’s exceptional success, the prospect of additional content remains uncertain following a surprise update.
Although major successes in gaming often lead to expansions and updates, there are no guarantees. For instance, Dispatch, another game that gained immense popularity, is already exploring a possible second season due to fan demand. Conversely, titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 have opted for substantial updates and modding capabilities rather than releasing typical downloadable content (DLC), empowering the community to create their own expansions.
Given the positive reception of Expedition 33, many fans are curious about the future of the game in Lumiere. To address this speculation, the game’s director has provided some insights.
Director’s Insights on Future Developments
In a recent newsletter announcement, Guillaume Broche, the director of Expedition 33, made it clear that the team is not currently focused on developing new content or expansions. Broche stated that further projects are “not tempting” for the team, indicating that fans shouldn’t expect additional content in the near future.

Broche elaborated on the team’s mindset, saying, “We could scale up now that we have a lot more money, but it’s not tempting for us. The management team and I would need to be hands-on in the process, and our real passion lies in game development, not management. The past five years have been some of the best of my life, and I aim to replicate that happiness.”
Therefore, while it appears that new content for Expedition 33 is unlikely, Sandfall Interactive has confirmed they are in the early stages of conceptualizing their next major game. They view Clair Obscur as a potential franchise, suggesting that Lumiere may return, albeit not as an expansion to the current game.
