Clarifying the Misconception: No, Todo didn’t Assist Yuta in Defeating Kenjaku in Jujutsu Kaisen

A well-known theory about Jujutsu Kaisen suggests that Aoi Todo may have assisted Yuta Okkotsu in defeating Kenjaku. However, some inconsistencies cast doubt on the validity of this theory.

The Aoi Todo is reintroduced in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga at a crucial moment. Yuji was losing faith after Choso’s passing and the threat of Sukuna’s flames consuming everyone else. However, the manga unveils a plan by Todo and Mei Mei to save the sorcerers trapped in Sukuna’s domain.

Nevertheless, due to their fear that Yuji might unintentionally reveal their plan to Sukuna, they chose to keep it concealed from him.

Despite the ongoing events in the manga, a large portion of JJK fans firmly believe that Todo’s presence was to assist Yuta in defeating Kenjaku. However, there are various inconsistencies that suggest otherwise. Please note: This article contains spoilers for Chapter 260 that has yet to be released.

What is the theory about Todo helping Yuta?

The concept first emerged in November 2023, when some individuals began questioning whether Yuta had imitated Todo’s technique in Chapter 243. This was due to the identical sound effect used when Yuta swiftly approached Kenjaku and decapitated him with one swift strike.

Despite this, many fans and translators revisited the theory and argued that Todo had helped Yuta, based on the translation. According to the translator of Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 236, “The plan with Mei Mei. Accompaniment with Yuta Okkotsu and Cursed Technique adjustment.” It is likely that the unusual “Kaaaan”SFX was Todo, who had accompanied Yuta during his confrontation with Kenjaku.

After analyzing the translation, they developed this theory. However, upon the release of Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 260 spoilers, a different translator asserted that the narrator had confirmed the validity of this theory in that chapter.

In addition, the chapter employs the same sound effect for Todo, as seen in the previous chapter. Another supporting factor for their theory is that both Todo and Okkotsu were present in the Gosho colony when the latter aided Todo in mastering his cursed technique.

Why is it unlikely that Todo will help Yuta defeat Kenjaku?

In JJK 0, Yuta proved to be faster than Geto as he suddenly appeared behind him. Being a special-grade sorcerer, he possesses remarkable cursed energy and speed. Additionally, sorcerers are able to boost their physical abilities using their cursed energy. Thus, it is undeniable that Yuta possesses extraordinary speed. After a year of intensive training, Yuta has become even stronger than before.

The success of the plan hinged on Takaba concealing Yuta’s presence in order to catch Kenjaku off-guard. However, the involvement of Todo in the background raises the question of whether Takaba also aided Todo in hiding his presence. Additionally, the possibility of utilizing Boogie Woogie further complicates matters as Takaba was uncertain if his ability would even work at the time.

Therefore, Todo’s cursed technique would have been proven effective if he had assisted Yuta and Takaba. However, this remains a mere speculation until the manga provides confirmation, which has yet to happen.

Moreover, the mere fact that both individuals were located within the Lake Gosho colony does not necessarily prove that Todo was present to assist Yuta. In fact, another prominent JJK account refuted this theory in November by stating that it is highly unlikely that Yuta utilized Todo’s Boogie Woogie technique. This was supported by the evidence of the sound effects used in the scene, as Gege consistently uses the sound “パンッ”for Todo’s technique, while the sound “カアアアンツ”translates to “Kaa

It can be challenging to decipher the SFX as there are multiple possible interpretations. Despite its resemblance to Boogie Woogie, it would have been more plausible for Yuta to have utilized it. Todo was uncertain about being able to utilize his Cursed Technique once more before rescuing the sorcerers from Sukuna’s domain.

Even though Todo and Yuta are both amazing characters, collaborating with them wouldn’t be a terrible idea. The ultimate aim was to defeat Kenjaku, whether with their assistance or not, making it a worthwhile effort.
